Josephine R. "Josie" (Occhipinti) Tullio, age 87, of Erie, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016. She was born in Erie on May 17, 1929, a daughter of the late James and Mary Grace DiCarlo Occhipinti.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1948 and went on to graduate from the Saint Vincent School of Nursing in 1951 as a registered nurse. She was part of the nursing staff at Saint Vincent Hospital for a number of years and did private duty nursing for family and friends. She enjoyed golf, tennis, snow skiing, swimming, and a good game of gin. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her six grandchildren.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Robert J. Tullio; her sister, Mae Occhipinti; and her brothers, Frank and Cosimo Occhipinti.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen A. Sturm, husband, William of Edgewood, Ky.; a son, Robert A. Tullio of Erie; six grandchildren, Megan Sturm, William Sturm, Jr., wife, Andrea, Robert Sturm, Brian Tullio, wife, Kate, Matthew Tullio and Lauren Tullio. Josie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dena Occhipinti of Rolling Hills, Calif..
Friends called at the Brugger Funeral Home, 1595 West 38th Street. Services were held there, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Church. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Husband Robert's obit:
Robert J. Tullio, age 87, of Erie, passed away at home Friday, February 26, 2016, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Erie on September 18, 1928, the oldest son of Florence and Carl Tullio.
Bob was a 1947 graduate of Cathedral Prep and graduated from Gannon University in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. He married the love of his life, Josephine Occhipinti in 1953.
He became a licensed real estate broker in 1956 and was broker-owner of R.J. Tullio Realtor's and Homefinders Real Estate for over 40 years. He later became associated with Pro Realty, Inc. He continued to be actively engaged in the real-estate business until the time of his death. His career in the real-estate business spanned over 60 years. In 1977, he was the President of the Greater Erie Board of Realtors and 1980 was the "Realtor of the Year." He was a member of the Erie County Board of Viewers, Chairman of the Erie County Assessment Task Force Committee, Chairman of the Erie County Board of Assessment, and undertook Erie County's first Reassessment Program in 1969. He was appointed by Governor Milton Shapp to the PA State Tax Equalization Board from 1971-1981. He was also a member of the faculty of Gannon University as a Lecturer in Real Estate & Insurance from 1959-1969 and a member of the faculty of Mercyhurst University as Lecturer in Real Estate from 1971-1973.
Bob was a founding member of St. Luke's parish and was a fixture at the 11 a.m. mass as an usher for over 60 years, and served on the parish's Finance Council. He also played a part in Erie's community as the Past President and Director of Better Housing of Erie for 25 years (Catholic Diocese), and President and Director of the Parents Board at Mercyhurst Prep for 14 years and was involved in its transition in becoming a co-educational facility. He was a member of the Erie County Home-Rule Charter Study Committee. He was a proud and passionate lifelong Democrat and was active in Democratic politics his entire life.
He loved to play golf and was a member at the Lawrence Park Golf Club, where he carded his first hole-in-one at age 86. He couldn't get off the tee to save his life, but had a short game Phil Michelson would envy. He was an expert horse handicapper and had a reputation of placing exotic and complicated $2 bets. He loved to roll the bones with his good buddies.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Occhipinti) Tullio; a daughter, Karen A. Sturm, husband, William, of Edgewood, Ky.; a son, Robert A. Tullio of Erie; six grandchildren, Megan Sturm, William Sturm, Jr., and Robert Sturm, Brian Tullio, wife, Kate, Matthew Tullio, and Lauren Tullio; two sisters, Bette Freeman and Lucille Eberlein, husband, Tom; two brothers, Richard Tullio, wife, Patti, and David Tullio, wife, Bonnie; and an aunt, Lena DeLaura.
Friends called on at Brugger Funeral Homes, Pine Avenue Branch. Services were held there, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Church. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery.
