Still here.
Seven schools before a BA. Got a BA in something super useless. Used said BA to hustle jobs at a masters' level and had a blast hopping from grant to grant until getting slowed down to do a major social media project (sorry about the NewsFeed, I didn't mean to put all those ads there) and eventually joining up with an autism organization that wanted to get blown up into something bigger and brighter than itself at present.
Escaped domestic violence laden relationship. Didn't get killed every night he tried it. Marooned in Knoxville, TN, the scruffiest little city in the South. Found a way to get metaphorical gold out of them thar hills and in gratitude, inked that statement on my skin. Ain't no reason to look a gift horse in the mouth.
There's no joy like coming up from the bottom and inspiring others to soar, too. Every day, as a member of the peer counseling movement, I do that. I create hope where there was nothing. I empower others to fulfill their dreams and destiny, even if that wasn't something they could imagine before.
Sure, I didn't end up a famous writer (everyone here wants me to tell you "yet"), and no, I don't have a higher degree at this point in time, but the sheer will and volition required to be here, now, is an accomplishment that I'm proud of and will not back down from. I'm okay with all of this.
So, if you're doing work in the Mid-South/Appalachia, get at me. If you're in mental health reform, get at me. If you're activisting and advocating, get at me. The future is in movement, organizing and amplifying the voice of those who need these services the most.
Sidenote: #unconquered forever, MBTI guru and obsessive, bull terrier owner, transmasculine genderqueer they/them using type, a constant work in progress. Constant.
