David Worthen
Born October 22, 1961. Attended Thatcher Elementary in South Denver, then Grant Junior High School (as it was then called), which is in the same South Denver neighborhood. Enrolled in South High School as a Freshman in the Fall of 1977. Did nothing during his years at South that would cause him to be remembered well - much less to be remembered fondly - by a great many of his classmates. Enrolled in classes at Colorado State University in the Fall of 1980. Realized, after taking classes there for two years, that it was high time for him to declare a major. Philosophy. That's the subject area that he chose as his major. (Really! No joking!) Graduated from C.S.U. with a B.A. in the winter of 1984. Worked as a file boy (but a darned reflective one, mind you!) - at a local insurance company for most of the rest of that decade. Returned to Fort Collins to begin graduate studies at C.S.U. in 1990. Failed spectacularly in that endeavor, and, after becoming weary of washing dishes at the local Village Inn Restaurant to support himself, returned to Denver in the summer of 1995. Has continued, during the ensuing decade-and-a-half, to file, or to do other odd jobs, for the bosses of various local companies. The back offices of Any Company, U.S.A.,or other places frequented by Any Company's entry-level employees - these have been his hangouts. Ah, but David's is not quite a lost life, perhaps! For he was baptised into the Catholic Church in 2004, and in 2005 he began to attend Mass at a beautiful Romanesque Sanctuary that is located out on Colorado's eastern plains. That sanctuary is known as Saint Isidore's Church, and there one can experience, unspoiled by the intrusions of any misguided "modernizations" of the church, the solemn and majestic beauty of the Latin Mass, the Mass as it was traditionally conducted in the Roman Catholic Church. (Ever been to a worship service punctuated by live Gregorian Chanting? If not, then you've definitely missed something wondrous!) He now makes daily pilgrimages to a shrine that is on the grounds of his local Church, there to say Rosary Prayers and Divine Mercy Chaplets. May he say a prayer there for you? Another interesting thing: want to know why he could well change his middle name to Red Skies? Don't care? That's what he thought your reaction would be. But here's a hint anyway: it has to do with certain future events to which he, along with a few other members of the faith, is privy, events which will affect the lives of all of us. (No kidding, now. He's quite serious!) Contact him, any of you who would like to know a great secret, and find out the answer to this question. And wish him well, lastly, as he prepares to make another effort, at the start of yet another decade, to return to school (but not, like last time, to C.S.U.) to further his education. At least this time he will bring to the effort plenty of prayer, along with plenty of supplements to take to keep his Attention Deficit Disorder, which he was finally diagnosed with in 1993, under reasonable control. Would that he'd known during his High School years everything that he knows now, and not least of all everything concerning the self-absorbed, fugitive, inattentive, and drifting nature of the life that he did in fact live, as it turns out, at that time and for so many years afterward. Mark these words: if he had known, he'd have done many things differently. A few of you might even have had him as a fast friend right down to the present day. But, as he can surely tell you, it's never too late to make a new beginning. He's still running to and fro right there in the southern reaches of the Mile High City, in the shadow of that old Rebels Alma Mater. Maybe he'll see you there sometime soon.
To all of you, in the meantime, Godspeed.
