Today's Featured Biography
Ken Simpson
I think I have had an interesting and rewarding life. I graduated from Trade School with an Auto Technician Degree and used that to work my way through Metro State College where I earned a degree in Economics and Business Management.
I married Connie Smiley in 1971. Connie became my wife, best friend and business partner. We moved to Steamboat Springs in 1972. From that time until 1997 we owned several business's including the Downtown Conoco, the Husky Service Station and the Big A Auto Parts Store. In 1977 we started a towing and recovery business which is still the premier towing company in Steamboat. I was on the board of directors for the Towing and Recovery Professionals of Colorado and was involved in the advisory committee for the region for Big A Auto Parts and was a member of the million dollar club.
I have two sons that grew up in Steamboat. I understand the older one, he lives in Townsend Montana. The younger one lives in Manhattan. I don't understand the Steamboat to Manhattan connection. I guess he has the subway system figured out, he has a great and rewarding job and travels all over the world referring Rugby.
We helped to save many lives and rescued hundreds of people through the towing business and Routt County Search and Rescue. We saved 7 lives that might have otherwise been lost through our expertise in the towing business. Sometimes when children were involved in an accident, Connie would gather up their toys and dolls out of the vehicles and take then to the hospital for the kids. Connie was just that kind of person. Connie worked side by side with me in all our business's and also dispatched for the Steamboat Police and Routt County Sheriffs Office.
In 1997 we purchased the Grand Mesa Lodge located in the Grand Mesa National Forest at 10,500 feet where the average snow fall is 35 feet. We provided lodging and snowmobile tours until 2011.
I lost Connie in 2012 and married Cassandra Kelton in 2013. We own and operate Cedaredge Tire and Auto in Cedaredge. I have been on the town board and am on the board of the Colorado Snowmobile Association. I groom 136 miles of snowmobile trail and 20 kilometers of cross country ski trails on a weekly, biweekly and monthly basis.
