Donna Mowry Chase

Following graduation I attended 2 years at CWC where I earned an AA Degree. 2 days after graduation from CWC, I got married to Bob Chase, and we have been married for 48 years. We have four children and eight grandchildren. Our oldest son, Chuck, is a captain with the Denver Fire Department just like his father. Our second son Jim, is a Master Electrian with the State Highway Department. Our third son, Randy, is a firefighter-paramedic with Cunningham Fire Department. Our daughter, Christine, lives in Washington where she is licensed optician.
Our four oldest grandchildren are in college. Our grandson is at the University of Wyoming, and the three granddaughters are at CSU. We have two grandsons in high school, one granddaughter in middle school, and the baby is still in elementary school.
With four young children, I returned to school at CWC and finished my bachelor's degree 10 years late. 3 years later, I entered graduate school in Boulder and graduated with a Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance and Church Music. Throughout this time, I was working in various churches around the city as an organist and/or a choral director and giving hundreds of piano and organ lessons. I had one of the very first music academies in Colorado and had 300 students and 15 other teachers of quality music. A few years later, I returned to CU and obtained my public school teaching certificate which is still current today. I taught in the heart of the city for Denver Public Schools, and retired in 1998. In 2001 I started substitute teaching in Douglas County, and have had several contracts for teaching music with that school district. I still continue to substitute teach which I thoroughly enjoy.
Bob and I and the children lived in Evergreen for many years and then moved back to Lakewood for a good many years. We now live in Castle Pines North.
Following retirement from DPS, I became a registered teacher in New Zealand and Australia, applied for a few jobs, and landed one in Hamilton, New Zealand. We moved there for a couple of years where I taught music at Maeroa Intermediate School. We had a ball while living in New Zealand. We were able to return for a visit 2 years ago and was able to visit many of our friends, and see many of our favorite places.
Bob and I have traveled extensively. While living in New Zealand, we traveled quite a bit throughout the South Pacific. We have traveled some in Asia, and quite a bit of Europe. One year, we were with Bridges for Education and taught conversational English in Estonia for several weeks. We were fortunate and were able to travel to several other coutries while there, including Finland and Russia. We have been in all 50 states and most of the provinces of Canada. When in North America, we usually travel in our motorhome which we live and travel in about half of the time.
I am still actively involved in music, but now just for fun. I still play the organ, and was able to play one of the really big pipe organs in Vienna in 2009, and another organ in Germany on the same trip. Once in a while, I still give concerts and have one coming up in November of 2010. Several years ago I started a praise band at our church and direct it, and that has been really fun and some times challenging, because I have musicians of all ages and levels and they play all sorts of instruments, and some times up to 20 people playing. We also play outside of the church and enjoy bringing a music ministry to the community.
Beyond music, I enjoy playing golf but I am not good at it. I do play 2-3 times each week, trying to improve. Another hobby is sewing and I have worn out 3 sewing machines since I got married. I make clothes, drapes, men's suits, quilts, and just about everything. Bob and I are square dancers and dance 2 or 3 times each week and dance all over the world because square dancing is always in English.
We spend winters in Apache Junction and play with our friends all day every day.
We have been very blessed and we are thankful that we are still healthy.
