Today's Featured Biography
Kim Harder
OCTOBER 28, 2016
Hi everybody:
With the urging from my longtime acquaintance Bill Weiderspan I am ‘checking-in’ with anybody that might be interested. If my failing memory serves me correct Bill and I go all the way back to the first grade at Lincoln elementary.
First of all, between the likes of fast cars, small airplanes, chainsaws and stepladders coupled with too many stupid things I am not willing to admit too I thank the Lord daily that am here to write this.
I can easily be included in the group of unknowns who are not readily recognized or remembered. I did not participate in any organized sports, clubs or events. It was not that I was anti-social but most of my interests and activities were based elsewhere. My primary interests at the time was building and racing cars. I also worked close to full time throughout high school, not that we were poor but because I always liked to be actively engaged. Even today retirement is nowhere on my agenda.
After graduating from high school I attended ‘Metro’ and in December 1972 received my BS degree with majors in math and physics. If it were not for my mother and girlfriends doing my English and literature book reports I would still be there today. Except for occasionally helping my younger brother with his college homework I never formally applied the technical aspects of my degree. In July 1970 I achieved my private pilot’s license and over the next two years while still in college I obtained all the advanced licenses and ratings required be a professional pilot. After graduating in 1972 I spent the next thirty years employed in a profession that I dearly loved as a professional/airline pilot. With that now in the past, along with my wife, we have a fine art gallery located in the sea-side village of Gig Harbor Washington.
In 1986 I finally settled down and married the love of my life, Barbara. In 1991 we were blessed with our one and only child, daughter Jennilin.
Being a second generation Denver native I always assumed I would be spending this stage of my life in some remote Colorado town high in the Rockies. However, in 1983 I was domiciled in Seattle Washington and except for an occasional visit home I have never desired to return. For the past 25 years Barbara and I have lived on a secluded sea side cove north of Gig Harbor Washington on Colvos Passage. We spend most of our free time cruising the islands on our boat with family and friends. With few exceptions I have been blessed with a wonderful wonderful life. I hope you all can say the same. Kim
