Today's Featured Biography
Lee Thompson
Greetings, everybody! Well, I'm still living the single life in Memphis, Tennessee. I went to the University of Memphis from 1990-1997. Why so long? I kept becoming dissatisfied with the major I chose. I began in Theater, then moved to Fine Art, then Graphic Design, then Creative Writing, and finally Technical Writing. I got a B.A. in English with a concentration in Technical Writing and a minor in Art.
In 1997, as I was about to graduate, I got a part-time internship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, which developed into my current career. I have worked at UT from 1997-present. I began in the Gastroenterology Division, editing papers for journal submission. Next, I worked briefly as a writer in the Pulmonary division. Now I'm in the Ophthalmology Department as a "Publications Specialist," a job in which I develop publications and other media for the department such as publishing the department newsletter, designing slideshows and posters, creating brochures and flyers, and maintaining the department's website.
In 2001, I went back to school to get my Master's degree, because I couldn't find a better-paying job in my field with the B.A. At the time, I was still earning under $30k; although, in 2004, I received a major raise and a promotion within my department (still doing the same work, but with a new title and much better pay).
I will graduate in December 2008 with a Master's degree in technical writing. I will then be seeking new employment with my M.A., and may be moving to another city if that's where my career leads me.
In my spare time, I dabble in digital video editing and drawing comic strips. I did a comic strip for the University of Memphis newspaper for one year, and I still occasionally draw things and post them online.
If anyone would like to contact me, feel free. I welcome hearing from old friends. And if you didn't know me in high school but want to get to know me now, feel free as well.
