Today's Featured Biography
Charley Garrett
Mona and I have been married for 37 years. Our children are Julia (1982), Phillip (1984), and Lisa (1986). Lisa married Brantley in 2013 and they are expecting their first child (a girl) and our first grandchild in June.
We retired in 2013. Mona said if you aren't working anymore neither am I. I had worked for 41 years for the Department of the Army as a safety engineer and project engineer. The last 21 years I worked for the Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Probably the highlight of my career was taking my family on an overseas tour to Kwajalein (Marshall Islands) from 1989 -1992 in support of DOD's Strategic Defense Initiative. Temperatures there ranged from 79-89 and we could walk to the beach. Mona loved the scuba diving. Now everyday is Saturday and I love getting paid to do whatever I want to do.
We still live in Maryland. I am very active in my church – trustee, small group leader, as well as serving on our mission team and our benevolence team. I have gone on a number of short term mission trips to Mexico and last year led my first mission team to Mexico. Ask me about it if you're interested.
I am still very active sports wise too. Play local baseball in a 40+ league and this year for first time a 50+ league. Also play baseball in tournaments in Florida and Cooperstown in the fall. I have also gotten hooked on pickleball. Began playing pickleball in 2014 and have medaled in some tournaments in 2015 and 2016. What a great activity both competitively and socially.
Also, I have been collecting baseball cards since 1995 and have a nice collection of vintage and newer cards of stars and sets.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50th.
