I attended Bartlett for my freshman and sophmore years after attending Coleman Elementary in Raleigh from the 5th Grade. I graduated from Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon in June, 1972.
In 1976 I graduated from George Fox College in Newberg, Oregon, with a B.A. in Religion. At the time I believed you could not be a real Christian if you were gay, so I abandoned my long-held dream of becoming a minister and, instead, worked steadily through a succession of jobs in Oregon, Nashville, and California.
In November of 1990, I was hired as a 9-1-1 dispatcher by the Oakland Police Department. 16 years and several positions later, I remain with OPD as an Administrative Analyst II doing crime statistics.
I'm sure I was not the only gay boy at Bartlett, so I'd like to know who else among us has come out of the closet since those days. I welcome email from everybody in the class who can be tolerant towards individuals who are other than heterosexual.
I'd also like to say thanks to Miss Sophie Theodore, my 7th and 8th grade English teacher and Miss Pippin, my 8th grade math teacher. You both taught me that I could rise to a challenge and be successful!!
