Today's Featured Biography
Kathy Eberly Hoke
Hi Everyone!
Here is my biography since graduation:
I got married March, 1978. We adopted our son in l990, one year after he was born, in September, 1989. We met him when he was 3 weeks old and we got to take him home from the hospital. Parenthood, now that is what I call the hardest job that exists in life! It is also the most rewarding. I do agree, there should be an island somewhere for teenagers, though! Mine is 19, I'm sure once he turns 20 (in 2 months) all will be well again. (No I didn't fall and bump my head on anything, this is just what I am praying will happen!! Well, life never guaranteed us total happiness. I'm talking about my marriage. That didn't work so well so I got divorced in July, 2000. Things are better now.
I started my working career as a secretary/bookkeeper/receptionist at York Day Nursery and Kindergarten in September, 1976. I enjoyed this job for 11 1/2 years. I then realized I needed more benefits than the nursery could give me so I got a job at York Hospital in March, 1988. I worked in Medical records for 3 years and then transferred to Quality Management in January, 1991 as a Medical Data Abstractor. I have enjoyed that job for the past 18 years. As I said before, life is not all roses.....my job was eliminated the end of January of this year. Talk about being tramatized!! I know I read all about all those other poor folks loosing their jobs but I never thought it could happen to me! I worked at a hospital for heaven sakes. People don't stop getting sick. I sure had rose color glasses on. I never seen this coming. Three other co-workers also lost their jobs. I am still under the Wellspan umbrella until September 20. Since I have 21 years in with Wellspan I am hoping to find a job in the system. I've been on some interviews, but no luck with a job offer yet. I've taken those rose color glasses off and see things very clearly now. So much for my work history.
After my divorce, as I sat in my apartment, watching my money go in my landlord's pocket, I made a decision to buy a house. I went through the classes that are offered in York. They were excellent! A lot of info I didn't know. I got my pre-approval and I was ready to find my dream home, well, at least my money would be going in my pocket. After going through 3 houses, I did find my "dream home" compared to the other 3 houses I went through....scary! In 2004, I bought a house in Jacobus. I can't believe the end of September this year, it will be 5 years! I love my home! My son still lives at home.....I think he says he's trying to find out what he wants to do with his life. Hopefully he'll find that out soon. I told him I was planning a wedding when I was his age and I had already been working for 2 years. His reply to that was, he wouldn't be stupid to get married at this age. Okay, then.
As I write this I realize just how blessed I am. Both my parents are healthy and have been a great support to me during my trying times. I have a wonderful sister who has followed me, as far as addresses go. When I was in my Dallastown apartment, she moved from Dover to Dallastown right behind me. Then I found my home in Jacobus and a year later, her family moved to Jacobus just down the next street from me. She's great! She shares her adorable grandchildren with me. She has been a great help to me during my recovery from an operation. I also have 3 terrific brothers. They take care of any mechanical needs I may have.....car, mower, etc. There have also been some minor things I've needed done in my house.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
