Today's Featured Biography
Donald Attig
I was in the USAF from Feb. 1960 to Feb. 1964 where I repaired the Radio and Radar Equipment on KB-50 type aircraft which were used for Aerial Refueling and refueled 3 jet aircraft at a time.
One item of interest while in the USAF: One of the big things at that time was to go into the service with a friend or buddy so that you would be with someone you knew most of the 4 years. Carter Myers and I joined the USAF under the “Buddy System”. Well, I saw Carter one time in 4 years. So much for the “Buddy System”.
After the USAF I was an Electrician - Electronics Technician at Allis Chalmers in York, PA. In 1979 I went into the Engineering Department. One of the first jobs in Engineering was “The Chicago Deep Tunnel” project. Allis Chalmers supplied all the Valves / hydraulic and electrical controls. I spent about 2 years traveling between Milwaukee, Chicago, and York during the engineering stages.
After the tunneling and building began, I got stuck for the installation and startup in Chicago which lasted about 4 years. From that point on, I ended up on the road as a Service Engineer until I retired in April 2007.
As I look back, I remember thinking that if I would ever get the chance to travel, I would like to walk on “The Great Wall of China” and now, I’ve done that twice. Another recollection from traveling is about my friend Rudi who was from Frauenkirchen, Austria. I am an Amateur Radio Operator (ham) and so was Rudi. We met on the radio and became very good friends over the years. Rudi often asked me to please stop and stay with him and his wife if I ever got over that way. Eventually I went to the Middle East and on the first return trip, I stopped and stayed with Rudi and Emy for 3 days. At the time I didn’t know this but when Rudi knew I was coming, he invited most of his family from Germany to come down and stay with him so they could meet his American friend, as he put it. There were 9 adults and about 4 kids who stayed there those 3 days. Rudi and I were the only ones who spoke English and I spoke no German but somehow we all knew what the other was saying or doing.
During the brief stay, I was introduced to all the dignitaries of the town, everyone who owned a store, business, bakery, Post Office, and I swear, every Vineyard owner along the Austrian – Hungarian border. He took me to his church which he was so proud of and introduced me to all the ham Radio Operators for miles around. He was so happy. Unfortunately, he passed away about a year later.
Finally getting to the Reunions and other outings including “The Yoe Gang” get togethers.
What a great life I’ve had and still have that same gal that married and stuck with me since way back in ‘62. Also, 3 great kids with great families.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
