John Irvine
John Robert Broadston Irvine, Marshalltown attorney and loving father of three, died Jan. 10, 2009, at the age of 35.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Martha Ellen Tye Playhouse. Private family burial will be in Riverside Cemetery alongside his maternal grandparents and great-grandparents. John was born June 22, 1973, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Stephen Robert and Madelyn Mowry Irvine. Graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1992, John was a member of the National Honor Society in the top two percent of his class. He was also a member of the wrestling and cross country teams and on the homecoming court. John became a licensed pilot at the age of 16. On June 14, 1996, John graduated with a degree in both philosophy and economics from Northwestern University. On May 14, 1999, John received a juris doctor degree, graduating with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law. In 1999, John was engaged in the practice of law founded by his grandfather, John L. Mowry, along with his father, Stephen and his wife, Erin. John was a fourth generation family attorney beginning with his great-grandfather, Harold C. Lounsberry. On Oct. 13, 1999, John was united in marriage to Erin Broadston in the Mowry family home, 503 W. Main St. in Marshalltown, Iowa. John and Erin made their home in Marshalltown with their three children, Marin (M.E.), William and Harrison.
John was a member of the Iowa and Marshall County Bar Associations. John was privileged and proud to be his son William's Pack 317 troop leader. John loved flying and taking his children along with him. John also enjoyed sharing his passion for astronomy with his family. He was an avid reader always having a book nearby.
John will be dearly missed by his wife Erin; his children: Marin Elizabeth, William John and Harrison James; his parents, Stephen and Madelyn Irvine; his grandmother, Betty Irvine; and sister, Kristin Elizabeth (Jeff) Barker. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews: Mitchell Mowry, Stephen Michael, Melissa, Ashley and Haley.
His grandparents, John and Irene Mowry, and Dr. Robert Dare Irvine, preceded him in death.
