Aimee Ault

I remember The Surfrider asked the seniors of 1998 before they graduated where they see themselves in ten years. I believe I put: "graduate from college, travel the world, be in a career." Well, it's been five years; half of that time is over and where am I now?

I am "taking a year off." Basically that means I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with myself after I graduated from college. I did, however, graduate from Pacific University--along with Kari Yamamoto--this past May (2002) with two degrees: Creative Writing and Literature, and one minor: Anthropology. While in college I traveled abroad for a semester to London where I interned at The Royal Opera House in the Press Office. I also continued my studies in literature and creative writing as well as pursued semi-professional acting at the Globe Theatre.

Currently, I'm living in Missoula, Montana, working at a medical clinic as a records release clerk. It's not the best, but it pays. I recently found out that I was accepted to DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois for their MA in Literature. So, I'll be heading out there in a few months. What will I do with that degree? I hope to be a professor of English and hopefully get to teach some classes in Feminist Studies.

For the future five years? I will receive my Ph.D, start my own literary magazine, compose an anthology of essays, fiction and/or poetry, laugh.

A lot to do in five years? Perhaps, but it doesn't hurt to try.
