Today's Featured Biography
Frank Marulli III
My thoughts and prayers go out to my friend and fellow Marine, the late Larry Fahrenbruch, class of 75, who died in an automobile accident in 1980.
My prayers are also with my friend Blair Bryant, class of 75. Bryant is a medically retired King County, Deputy Sheriff. Blair was paralyzed after being involved in an automobile accident while in pursuit of a drunk driver. Blair now lives in Casa Grande, Arizona.
I attended George Dewey Junior High, followed by East High, until I turned 17 when I dropped out of school to enlist in the U.S. Marines. I did go on to earn my High School Diploma, thanks to a program offered through the Army and Navy Academy. I went on to earn an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Law Enforcement, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice.
I enlisted in the Marine Corps after turning 17. It was a good move for me, I needed discipline and structure in my life. By the time the class of 76 was graduating, I was making Sergeant (E-5) and had a minor support role in the evaluation of Viet-Nam. I retired from the Marine Corps as a First Sergeant (E-8) in 1995, at age 37, after serving close to 21 years.
After being promoted to Corporal (E-4), I returned to Bremerton on leave in July of 1975. I had the pleasure of seeing the late Larry Fahrenbruch, Blair Bryant, Bruce Chevalier, Marcia Wise, Rick Hansen, Kevin Nordeen, Caryn Erstead, Beth Rice, Maureen Foley, Jay Kluth, John Parker, Jim Perice, Carol Robinett and the three Edmondson's, Lori, Keith and Eddie, all of East High School. I'm sure there were a few others, but I really don't recall.
In 1977, while assigned to the 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan, I married my wife, Setsuko. Okinawa is an island approximately 350 miles off the coast of Japan. Setsuko was raised in a Christian children's home and speaks Okinawan, Japanese and English. We have three, now grown children, who were born on Okinawa, and six grandchildren. I lived overseas, mostly on the island of Okinawa, for close to 12 years.
After retiring from the military in 1995, I went to work as a California State Correctional Peace Officer. I retired as a Lieutenant after 24 years, in 2019 at age 62. I'm fortunate enough to make a very comfortable retirement in addition to having two medical polices paid for life.
The good news for every girl who rebuffed my advances while in school (which was every girl who knew me), is you all made a good call. I haven't aged well; old beyond my years, overweight, bald and to be honest butt ugly. But, all of this is of little concern to me. My wife actually loves me just the way I am. The proverbial phrase, "Love is Blind" may actually be true.
