Michael Hays

After graduating (barely) I sped down the hallway after graduation saying that this is the last time i would ever sit in a classroom. That was not the last lie I ever told myself.
I floundered for a few years until I was hired into the shipyard. Between the shipyard and the Navy Reserve I was able to get some stability and direction in life.
The federal government has taken me around the world. I transferred from the shipyard in 1978 and worked a year at the Navy's activity in Pascagoula, MS. I then transferred back to the northwest in 1979 only to transfer again to Kings Bay, GA in 1988. In 1998 my wife Judy and I began a 3 year Navy assignment in Naples, IT. During that time we were able to visit many areas we would never able to do as tourists. My career with the federal government ended after 41 years in 2006.
The Naval Reserve offered me an opportunity to escape the draft. I served my 2 year committed active duty in San Diego and South Vietnam. There is no similarity. I retired from the Naval Reserve in 1996 after 30 years service.
I continued my education with an apprenticeship in the shipyard and continued on at Seattle City University (now City University) attaining a Masters Degree in 1981.
After moving the northeast Florida in 1988 I met my wife Judy and we were married in 1990. Coupled with her son John we have five children that have given us seven grandchildren. They certainly make life worth living. Unfortunately they are spread from Seattle to Las Vegas to Athens, GA.
Unfortunately most of our present time is taken up with health issues. Both Judy and I are cancer suvivors. It is because of a pending surgery that will limit our travel and keep us away from this reunion.
