Today's Featured Biography
Bob Britt Praetorius
For those who don't know - I found out during our Senior year, that I had not been adopted by my Step-father. Although I had been using his last name, Britt, for as long as I could remember, when I applied for my drivers license, I had to produce my birth certificate. That is when I discovered that my real last name is Praetorius. So, for those of you who may remember me, you would probably remember me as Bob Britt and not Bob Praetorius.
After graduating, I started at Central Missouri State as a music major with drums being my major and voice being my minor. I had eye surgery after the first semister and didn't go back.
I moved to Iowa to see an eye specialist - started working for the Iowa Dept. of Social Services as a youth services worker at a boys correctional facility. It seemed to fit in well with my "hippi" appearance and my easy to get along with personality.
Realizing that I really needed a college degree to get a "good" job, and not being able to afford to pay for it myself - I joined the Navy in 1974, and then stayed in until 1986. During my 11 year enlistment, I spent four years in Japan. I lived in San Diego for the rest of the time. I worked on flight simulators for a variety of Navy aircraft. I learned that computers were wave of the future and got to play on a couple of the most expensive first person shooter games ever built - flying F-14 fighter jets against the commi migs.
Earned a BS in Computer Science from National University in San Diego in 1989. Worked as a computer systems analyst for the Navy as a civil servant. Carol, my ex-wife, fell and broke several vertebrates in her back and ended up on long-term disability. With the cost of living being so high in San Diego, I landed a job as a computer scientist with the Air Force in San Antonio where I worked until the BRAC closed that Air Logistic Center in 1998.
Started working for BioNumerik (a cancer research and development drug company). Due to a failure of the Phase III trials, the company downsized in November 2006 - laying off 2/3rds - me being one of them.
After going through a divorce in 2008, I moved to Puerto Rico to help my brother. I landed a job with the US Army at Fort Buchanan where I worked as a construction controller until 2014. In 2012 I got bit by a mosquito with Dengue. After the week of super high fever, I was left with severe tinnitus - a high pitched screaming sound in my head. Since I had 30 years federal service - I retired.
Life in Puerto Rico has it's benefits - 85 degrees year round, but it also has a lot of negatives - too many to list. Great place to visit - it is truly a tropical paradise for the most part and one of the top 10 surfing locations in the world. Puerto Rico has one of the longest "zip lines" in the world as well - something the kids and grand-kids can enjoy. lol.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
