Today's Featured Biography
Mark Harvey
I received my BA from Washburn University, an MA from UMKC, an MA from University of Wales, Swansea, and my PhD from KU. I have written articles about human rights, democratization, and my current research is on politics and popular culture, particularly the impact of music, celebrity, and the entertainment industry on politics.
I currently am the graduate program manager at the University of Saint Mary, where I teach courses in international political economy, global management, leadership, and politics. Since 1996, I taught at a number of schools including KU, Baker University, Duke University, and the University of Birmingham in the UK.
I have also engaged in some business and political consulting. From 1990-1994, I co-owned Capital Carpet Systems/Carpet Hero, a small carpet cleaning business with locations in Topeka and the Kansas City area. Afterwards, I continued to consult with small local businesses like MyJoeCard, international businesses like CV6 (for whom I interviewed members of Sinn Fein in Belfast and Dublin and negotiated a trade deal between British and Vietnamese companies), and did some conflict forecasting for the Department of Defense.
I never gave up my musical interests. In 1987, I started a musical comedy group called the Rosponyonov Brothers, which eventually became a band called One Nation Underdog in the mid-1990s. I still work on recording my compositions with friends.
I love international travel. I met my wife, Kimberly, when we were studying in London in 1996. We returned to the UK in 1997, got married in Wales in 1998, and moved to England from 2000-2002.
