From the 1958 Rebel Roundup:
"There is friendliness in his every movement."
In September 1954, The American Statesman started a column called "Tri-High Scoop". A student from each high school wrote about the happenings at their school and then it was published in the Sunday paper. Each school had a "catchy" name, Austin was Maroon Musings, McCallum was 'Callum Clues and Travis was Travis Drawl. Enjoy reading about the days when you were at Travis.
Travis Drawl By Carol Cotman March 9, 1958
"…old times there are ne'er forgotten…"
And one of these times that Rebels remember every year is the Starlight Revue. Last Saturday night, Principal W. A. Sloan named Miss Judy Barker as winner of the beauty review, Travis' most beautiful girl. Handing Judy her bouquet of roses was Marlene Clyburn, who won second place in the revue last year. Emerging as second most beautiful was Janet Bailey, and Ellabeth Sassman was declared third most beautiful girl.
Those girls in the top 13 included Nancy Pearson, Barbara Tyler, Virginia Jarmon, Nancy Sappington, Connie Todd, Carol Homerstad and Judy Miller. Also receiving this top honor were Martha Wilkinson, Melinda Milstead and Joy Ballard.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the drama department of Travis will present its spring production, "High Tor". Cast in this play are Frank Ray, Kenneth Tidwell, Tommy Proffitt, Bert Ledenham, Nancy Sappington, Clyde Moore, Gordon Kelso, Chuggy Horton, Bill Frazee, Bennett Averyt, Jimmy Herrell, Charles Bunce, Fred Blum, Riki Krezdorn and Melinda Milstead.
Elected as president of the senior class for the spring semester was Max Stout. Next in line was Tommie Craig, who was elected vice-president. Melinda Milstead was named secretary, and Frances Spears, treasurer. Reelected as sergeant-at-arms was Gibbs Franki.
Presiding over the sophomore class will be Bo Price with Janet Bailey as vice-president. Judy Miller captured the title of secretary and Ruthann Bray was elected treasurer. John Shaw is sergeant-at-arms.
Holding the gavel for the junior class is Johnny Polvado. Next in office is Jimmy Rogers and Nancy Thomas was elected secretary. Nancy Sappington is treasurer and Jesse Johnson was elected sergeant-at-arms.
