In September 1954, The American Statesman started a column called "Tri-High Scoop". A student from each high school wrote about the happenings at their school and then it was published in the Sunday paper. Each school had a "catchy" name, Austin was Maroon Musings, McCallum was 'Callum Clues and Travis was Travis Drawl. Enjoy reading about the days when you were at Travis.

"Summertime, and the livin' is easy…" will be the theme of Rebels this week. School is behind them, for the time being, and about 168 seniors are looking forward to college or work.
The annual Awards Assembly last Monday recognized outstanding students in Dixieland for this year. Bill Frazee, Wayne Landrum, and Raymond Mosteller received trophies for their outstanding ability on the chess board. Band letters, basketball letters, and intramural letters were presented by Mr. W. A. Sloan. Mr. Arch Adams, from the American National Bank, presented a $100 check to Betty Wright and Clyde Moore, Rebel students winning the handwriting contest this year. Mike Wacker and Rebecca Wells received a distributive education certificate for the 1958 year.
Receiving the honor of outstanding tenth grade track star was Andy Crites. Second place this year went to Carlos Ollison and Bob Cervenka and David Burks tied for third position.
Judie Wood won a $55 scholarship to attend the Spanish Workshop this summer. As she is unable to attend, Martha Gaskin was awarded the scholarship as alternate. Another Reb in line for awards was Terry Bray. Terry received the Science Award for his high attainment in science this year. Eddie Miller, Rebel senior, also received recognition in the science field. He was given a 10-volume set of "Popular Science", a medal, a certificate, and a check for his science exhibit in the Science Fair this year.
Minette Naquin, Rebel senior, was given a trophy by the Rebelettes for being the outstanding Senior Rebelette of the year. Irene Henriksen was chosen the Outstanding Junior Rebelette. Letters were given to the 1958 cheerleaders, and Janice Brown, head cheerleader, received a two-year letter.
"Who's Who" was announced at the Rebel Roundup presentation assembly last Tuesday morning. This group is composed of outstanding seniors chosen by the faculty. These 16 Rebels included: Fred Blum, Bobby Francis, Sparky Blaylock, Terry Bray, Janice Brown, Melinda Milstead, Jackie Smith, Bette Smith, Carol Cotman, Nancy Pearson, Nancy Dawson, Everly Driscoll, Sam Ruiz, Neill Coble, Virginia Jarmon, and Alice Mosteller.
Thursday night was graduation night in Dixieland. Nancy Dawson delivered the valedictory. Terry Bray was salutatorian. After the services, the senior class enjoyed an all-night party at the Austin Country Club.
Class favorites were announced and Melinda Milstead and Max Stout topped the senior class. Nancy Thomas and Jimmy Rogers were announced "Friendliest" in the junior class, and Ruthann Bray and Bo Price were chosen favorites in the sophomore class.
