In September 1954, The American Statesman started a column called "Tri-High Scoop". A student from each high school wrote about the happenings at their school and then it was published in the Sunday paper. Each school had a "catchy" name, Austin was Maroon Musings, McCallum was 'Callum Clues and Travis was Travis Drawl. Enjoy reading about the days when you were at Travis.
Travis Drawl By Carol Cotman March 30, 1958
What is life with Father like? Students at Travis have a pretty good idea after seeing the drama department's production of "Life with Father" by Clarence Day on Friday. This play will also be presented at the Interscholastic League Contest in Waco. Rebels in the cast were Fred Blum, Dian Macry, Charles Bunce, Chester Eitz, Chuggy Horton, Judy Ransom, Betty Pearson, and Judy Griffin.
Dixieland was well represented at the annual Fat Stock Show held in the city coliseum March 9, 10, and 11. Bringing home three championships was Johnny Polvado . Winning other championships with their livestock were Mike Grumbles, Edward Rhodes, Darrell Harp, and James Weaver. Capturing a reserve championship were Willie Deane, Tommy Spillar, Buddy Sladek, and Cletus Kleen. Selected by the judges as being outstanding in showmanship were Johnny Polvado and Morris Johnson.
A trip to Waco the first of April is in store for two Travisites, Dorothy Martin and Joanne Mallett. They were chosen to represent Travis in the Interscholastic League Meeting in the Ready Writers Contest. Alternate is Minette Naquin.
Coming back to Travis with first division gold medals were 20 Rebel Band students from the Interscholastic League Contest at San Antonio. Thirty students entered a solo or ensemble.
Student conductor Bobby Francis won a medal in his turn at the baton. Other Rebs in first division are: Nancy Dawson, Judy Furhman, Jere Cyrus, Carol Cotman, Barbara Roberts, Mary Ann Stromberg, Jimmy Jackson, Jimmy Whorton, Tommy Bourke, Patsy Drury, Gene Rhemann, John Thomson, Earl Beaty, Don Batey, John Irvine, Melvin Soderberg, and Scott Kavanaugh.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
