After graduation went to the University of Texas, participated in the Longhorn Band. Left school after 3 years, married Terry Choquette(Class of '61) and became a mortician in Austin Texas. Terry and I had our first son in 1966 and two more sons, 1968 and 1970.
Terry and I started a property and casualty insurance company in 1972 and in 2009 are now on of the largest operations in Austin with locations in Austin, Round Rock and now Los Angeles. Our three sons, now 42, 40 and 38 run segments of our company. Two sons have have degrees, from Baylor and one fom UT Tyler.
Terry went back to University of Texas in 1994 and graduated with honors in 1997 with Bachelor of Business Adminstration. We now live on the golf course in our FRP(final resting place) where we hope to slowly retire. We will celebrate 47 years of marriage this year. Blessings jim whorton
In September 1954, The American Statesman started a column called "Tri-High Scoop". A student from each high school wrote about the happenings at their school and then it was published in the Sunday paper. Each school had a "catchy" name, Austin was Maroon Musings, McCallum was 'Callum Clues and Travis was Travis Drawl. Enjoy reading about the days when you were at Travis.
Travis Drawl By Carol Cotman November 17, 1957
Last Monday was a day to sleep late for most Rebels, but at 8am, sounds from the Travis band hall meant something else for some – marching!
Thus the day started for the Rebel Band and Rebelettes with two hours of drilling for the precision show, which was presented at the Austin High-Travis game Friday night. Sponsor of the Rebelettes this year is Mrs. Bernard Forster.
Also on the week's agenda for the Travis marching squad was a "suppressed desire" party given by the Austin High Red Jackets Wednesday night.
Student directories were placed on sale by the Travis Student Council Wednesday. This is only one of their projects for the year. Miss Irene Randerson is the sponsor of the Student Council with Terry Bray serving as president and Neill Coble as vice-president.
A goodwill journey was the order of the day recently when Rebels welcomed visitors from Temple High School. Representatives of the student body, band, marching squad, and cheerleaders were conducted on a tour of Travis by Bette Smith, Janice Brown, Terry Bray and yours truly, Carol Cotman. These Temple High students were accompanied by their principal and stayed south of the river for a visit of two or three hours. Travis played Temple the following Friday night.
Travis was well represented in the Taylor District FFA conducting contest in leadership competition at Taylor recently. Winning this contest was the Travis FFA Chapter sponsored by Tom Branyon. Members of the winning team were Johnny Polvado, Mike Grumbles, Ed Rhodes, Cletus Kleen, Jimmy Gustafson and Jesse Wheeler.
Host to Austin High students Friday night were the Rebels, who held an after-game dance in the Travis cafeteria. Rivalry may be keen in the Austin high schools, but these dances prove the friendliness between them.
Topping the honor roll this first six weeks were eight members of the junior class. These Rebels made no grade lower than an A. Members of the honor roll are Bobbie Ann Darter, Billy Stewart, Marie Liardon, Judy Fuhrmann, Judy Ingram, Martha Gaskin, Riki Krezdorn and Frank Ray .
