In September 1954, The American Statesman started a column called "Tri-High Scoop". A student from each high school wrote about the happenings at their school and then it was published in the Sunday paper. Each school had a "catchy" name, Austin was Maroon Musings, McCallum was 'Callum Clues and Travis was Travis Drawl. Enjoy reading about the days when you were at Travis.

Rebel Senior Day Friday was celebrated by an all-day picnic for the seniors at Barton Springs. Swimming, volleyball, washers, baseball, sack races, eating, and loafing were the main activities.
Travis delegates attended the Interscholastic Press Conference Friday and Saturday. The conference held special interest because Travis ran John Irvine as candidate for president of next year's convention Thursday evening, the publications department was host at the party for all delegates to the conference.
Two boys, Bobby Adams and Dickie Allison, received scholarships, providing full tuition for two year's training in distributive education at San Angelo College. Charles Wilson, another Travis DE student has been awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of Texas by the Retail Furniture Association of Texas.
Authority on education, Dr. L. D. Haskew, spoke to the seniors in an assembly last Tuesday on vocational opportunities in his field. Members of the Future Teachers' Club played hostess to Dr. Haskew. Next Tuesday, Dr. Dewitt Reddick, a noted journalism professor at the University of Texas, will speak on career possibilities in journalism. The publications department will be host.
Travis' choral department presented a concert under the direction of Miss Josie Champion on April 30 in the Travis gymnasium. The choirs presented sacred pieces and Broadway hits in a varied program. The concert was concluded by all the choirs combined singing, "The Song of Democracy." In staging and presenting the program, the art, industrial arts, and drama departments assisted.
In the Spanish exams given by the National Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas, April 18, three Travis students placed at the top. Connie Todd tied second place in the second year non-native division; Irene Gutierrez won first in the third year native division; and Laura Holley won first in the fourth year native division. Twenty-one students from Travis took the exams.
Mrs. Willard Nitschke's tenth grade advisory has taken a girls' school in Pauri, India, as a project. They are sending school supplies, soap, and wash cloths, which are scarce items. They plan to send clothing later.
