Today's Featured Biography
M. Douglas Hoss
I was married in 1980 to Maria Munoz, a Hispanic native of Kansas City, Missouri
and in 1982, we had our first and only child, Alecia Anne. In 1990, we divorced and Alecia, age seven, came to live with me for the next eight years. When Alecia decided to go and live with her mother after that, I took a position with an electrical contractor installing computer networks on the eastern seaboard.
I started my career as a policeman and attack dog handler in the military after which, I became a guard in the private sector while attending the Missouri Institute of
Technology to study computer engineering. Eventually, I became a private investigator for a national firm but nearly three years after this, I changed careers and went into warehousing. It was about six years later that I became a building maintenance engineer which I did until I began installing, servicing and upgrading computer networks across the country. Just after the
turn of the century, I chose to settle on the east coast and returned to engineering work
so as to be able to continue with my poetry.
Part one of "From Time to Time", was originally titled “Inspired Passions” and
published as an e-book on the internet in February of 2000 where, one year later in 2001, it was labeled a "Classic" collection of poems by its publisher. In June of 2001,
"Dreams", "My Sweet Forever", "The Empty House of the Heart", "Sonnet #6" and "How
Great This Thing Called 'Love' Must Be" were published in the Valley Writers anthology
called "Fit to Print 2". I was later nominated for the International Society of Poets "Poet of the Year" in 2002 and again in 2004. I also received from them, in December
of 2003, an "Editor's Choice Award" for my achievement in poetry with "The Empty House of the Heart". In February of 2004, "Sonnet #6" and "How Great This Thing Called 'Love' Must Be" were displayed alongside contemporary works of art at the Arndean Gallery on Cork Street in London, England during an exhibition titled "Love in Art". In August of 2004, I was listed in the International Society of Poets International
“Who's Who in Poetry" registry with my poem "Each and Every Day” and in December of 2004, I received a second “Editor’s Choice Award” for my poem, “The Itch”. By year’s end
of 2004, my work placed me among two hundred writers from over twenty five nations
deemed “Best Poets of 2004”. In April of 2005, I was nominated for a third time as "Poet of the Year" and was listed in the International Society of Poets “Who's Who in Poetry" registry with my poem "How Great This Thing Called 'Love' Must Be” for a second consecutive year.
I currently reside in Roanoke, Virginia.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
