Today's Featured Biography
David Hedlund
Since our last reunion in 2012 a few major things have happened.
In the winter (February) of 2002, The Minnesota Timberwolves had a publicity gimick (Heros in the Making). They had a total of twelve persons selected, I was number eleven. It was for those who contributed the most to making Minneapolis a better place for the children.
I was honored for my 39 years of working with youth (15-19) athletics in Richfield and surrounding area (Apple Valley, Eastview and Rosemount).
To this day, I still do NOT know who nominated me.
I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in February 2015.
In March 2015, I had double by pass open heart surgery.
In February 2012, I decided to hang up my statistic coat in the clothes closet.
In 2008, a couple major surgeries. In January I had cancer surgery. They removed 60% of my pancreas and all my spleen. Then in March I had a heart attack, which they put in two stents. I was legally dead for 15 minutes.
That summer, after our reunion I had my first "brush with death" when I had gall bladder surgery.
The summer (June) of 2003, I was house watching for a friend and on my last day, I was walking to catch the bus to return home when my left ankle gave way and I attempted (to no avail) to break my fall. In a matter of a few seconds, I found myself laying in the middle of the street and could not move. I had broken my left ankle and my right hip.
A month later still using my walker for support, I hired a U-Haul moving van and I made my trek to Wyoming. I worked for one of the local radio stations and the Bureau of Land Management.
Then on 05 November 2006, I decided to retire from the work setting, but I will still continue working with youth athletics.
I moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in February.
Looking forward to our 50th year reunion. I am going to make every attempt to be there.
