Today's Featured Biography
Jill Trepp Sahlstrom
I'm so glad that I graduated from Junaita, Yes! There were Geometry TLU 's from my freshman year to finish and a dress from Home Ec(back in the days when the guys took shop and we girls took Home Ec.)so maybe I almost didn't graduate.I spent 3 months every school year(Feb. to May) during high school staying with my father who taught at a Eskimo BIA boarding school in Bethel. There I learned to skin sew mukluks and ice fish and drive on the frozen river...I had the choice of which school to graduate from. I am glad I chose Juanita and so was prepared for the real world because of Chester and all of you! After all, we were the first public school in WAsh. to get a computer!!! Albeit as big as a bathroom.
I have since substitute taught(for Mr. Moore) at Junaita (since resigning from my Seattle teaching job of 9 years in 1993 to raise my 3 kids) and I loved telling the students about Chester, TLU's , no walls or 6 periods. We were educational guinea pigs you know? I have started a Masters in teaching English as a Second Language at Seattle University and finished 1 quarter a couple of summers ago. Anyway I may make a survey to compare how we all liked our grand educational experiment. Would you even be interested in filling out a survey? Don't worry it won't be soon, I may do this when my 3 children are finished with college and I can finish my Masters degree using my husbands retirement money. Meanwhile I teach private drawing and painting lessons, am a memeber of the NW Collage society,I showed my work at the Convention Center last year and substittue teach. Now(until 11/30/05 my collages are showing at the CAncer Lifeline Center on Fremont Str.,north of the zoo.My daughter is college in New Hampshire and my son has A.L.L. Luekemia that thank God it is in remission. He has 3 more years of chemo and intense prayers. My youngest son Matt weighed 10lbs and 14 oz at birth and I still have trouble sitting too long at the computer, so this will be short. They all have great senses of humor which keeps us going through our mishaps of life. My husband is a cop in Monroe so if you are ever stopped for speeding, just say that you are a Junaita 1975 grad and that may be your get out jail free card? We met at a small college in Sitka,Alaska where Chris Moses sister said I only went to get my MRS degree. It worked and we have been married since 1877 with only 2 separations that ended before divorce predeedings because when he was younger he looked like Brad Pitt. Somehow in Home Ec. I didn't learn the part about men being from Mars and woman being from Venus, and also since I didn't grow up with brothers.
What charaterized my life while living in Settle for 10 years is the TV show Home Improvement. We remodeled an old, old (should have been torn down) house near Greenlake after finishing our degrees at SPU. Now we live on 5 acres outside Snohomish and our neighbors have seen cougars. We have 3 ponies that mow our lawn so we are not polluting the air with a riding lawn mower and we spend our free time sailing,Our sailboat is my husband's mistress and he is going to probably sail to Hawaii without me.
You all are such a great group and especially your senses of humor! Thanks for your uniqueness and being you!Until the next reunion, God bless you. Jill Trepp Sahlstrom

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
