Today's Featured Biography
Patricia Bourke Lucas
I wonder how many of us have either completed, begun writing or are thinking about writing a book about the many twist and turns our life has had since graduation. What I do know is that I have an accumulation of experiences which have made me who I am today. I consider myself a visionary who is an overcomer, and am considered by many as a mentor, teacher and motivator.
After PHS, I started and quit college several times, changing degrees each time. Really didn't know what I would be best at doing. Wanted to know my gifts, my bent, whatever that hidden talent inside me was. Little did I know then, that my gifts and talents were growing as I was and would become something far greater than one specific thing. I am not through growing, learning and discovering what God has for me. if fact, the greatest is yet to come.
Early on I discovered if I believed in something, I could sell it. Was an overachiever and that was not always a good thing when it came to marriage. The desire to control me was a natural and a disaster.
About 20 years ago I owned a marketing company devoted to helping small businesses, called the Marketing Link and owner of Consultants Plus. With a mortgage in Quail Valley, new car and state of the art equipment, i thought I had arrived and could just see my goals being reached. Was written up as an up and coming entrepreneur. When major equipment failure lost much of my parents life savings, my home and my pride, I was devastated as Money had become my god.
Three years later and two months pregnant, my husband left, as his desire was for me to promote him, not start a family at 40 years of age. That was the greatest and most important turn in my life. I made the choice to became a single mother, and didn't want to drag my child on my roller coaster ride and watch me make mistake after mistake with my life. God entered the equation in a major way. Went to Sam Houston State and graduated with honors. Went to Bible college and discovered my direction, Moved to AZ, home-schooled my daughter, ended up running a 60 room hotel in Winslow, ministered with abused women and children from the reservation, met my husband, and moved back to Texas to be with my aging parents who needed me.
Then we moved on our TX property. What an awesome test, it has turned out to be. Timing is everything. Now, a vision for our property is slowly unfolding, as we overcome one obstacle after another. Getting on the same page with my husband, has been a long road, but well worth the trip. He is one of the most gifted men I have ever known, yet his dreams have never been able to come to pass, until now.
Have an internet site domain needing set up, which is just waiting for the right time to help promote venues and market family oriented Free Concerts. This site is to be the pre-marketing vehicle showing the need for a Major Free Concert Facility, which will totally be mentor oriented from land survey, construction to operation. A Fine Arts Institutes will use state of the art equipment to teach students hands on.
So, like I said, the greatest is yet to come, and it really has nothing to do with me, it has to do with our upcoming generation. Being behind the scenes motivating others in the gifts I see in them, is my greatest gift. My daughter is very gifted and I guess you could say I am destined to prepare the stage for her generation.
UPDATE - now a 3rd grade teacher in Willis, TX and a GRANDMOTHER!!!
