Today's Featured Biography
Don Tompkins
How do you wrap up 40 years in a few paragraphs? It has been a great trip down memory lane reading some of the posted bios and the message board. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great time with old classmates.
After high school I attended East Texas Baptist College for a year and a half before they ask me not to attend their institution of higher learning anymore. That’s a story for the reunion. As it turned out God knew I didn’t belong at ETBC and had a better plan for me. The last person I saw on campus was a young lady who has spent the last 38 years making me thankful I didn’t just wave and drive on by. Karen and I were married and next March will celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. She will be the first to tell you she has been happily married for at least 25 years! Together we have four children. Two are ours by birth and two had the good sense to marry into the family. Tracy, our oldest, just got married this past April and she and Eric live in Orlando. Took her a long time but she got it right and that was special for ole Dad. Our son Daren (Doctor Tompkins who would have ever thunk it?) currently lives in Wichita, Kansas with Elissa and the two grandsons. I say currently because these two have surrendered their lives to international medicine and there is no telling where they will end up. The only problem here is they plan on taking the grandsons with them.
The career path has been nothing short of exciting almost since day one. I went to work in 1970 for Olin Corporation in Pasadena. Somewhere around 1975 I was offered a supervisory job and that set the stage for a world of challenges I never envisioned. Mobil Oil bought the Olin facility and in 1980 I was transferred to Florida with Mobil Mining and Minerals. In 1995 Mobil sold the division to Cargill and in 2004 a new company, Mosaic, was formed as a result of a merger between IMC and Cargill Crop Nutrition. Today I am the manager of the Four Corners Mine in central Florida. This past January marked 37 years of service in one industry. It has been an exciting, fulfilling and rewarding experience and like I said one I never envisioned back in 1975. Retirement is a couple of years off and I am not sure how you say goodbye to 40 years worth of friendships and memories but I will find out. Looking forward to the next phase of His plan.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
