Kevin Mitchell
This site is a great idea! I'm glad Christine called me and told me about it!
As far as my history goes, I attended UNCA right out of high school, and ended up with my BS in Computer Science. It only took me 4 years and a summer to do it!
I met my wife Cheri(Fletcher Academy, 1982) there, and we married in 1988.
I got my first real job in January of 1990 for Normac, which designs and builds toolmaking robots for the small tool industry. I did mostly programming, but some other engineering too. While working here, my two children were born, Carly Marie(1992), then Zachary Talbot(1994.) I went 7 and a half years there.
For my next job, I was the IS Manager at the big Hubbell Warehouse in Arden. That job was stressful, and the working relationships with folks there were adversarial at best. I wasn't cut out for that environment, so I bailed after a year.
I decided to go back to my first career love, which was software engineering. I got on at Trident Microsystems in Avery's Creek. Trident designs and builds commercial radio trunking equipment, and I had a great time working on some really cool projects there. I also got my ham license(K1KFM) and learned a bunch about radio.
For my next job, I came here to uniComp, where I'm the Senior Software Guy. I've been here close to five years and like it a lot.
I keep busy doing computer consulting on the side, too.
Cheri and I built a log home in Fairview in 1994, and we're currently renting it. We bought 11 acres on Cane Creek road in 2002. It came with a small house, but were busting it at the seams with the kids hitting middle school. We're going to start building another home, probably log, later this year.
I enjoy mtn biking, weightlifting, and working my property.
Carly takes acting classes, plays flute and piano, takes dance lessons, and is now summer working with Cheri at the families nursing home.
Zach plays basketball, soccer, and is going to do football again this year. He plays the sax and piano, take gymnastics lessons, and I'm active in Boy Scouts with him too.
Like everyone else, we run around pretty much all the time doing something with/for the kids.
I'm looking forward to the reunion, please email me if anyone needs anything to help out.
