Darlene Hockenbury Melugin

After high school, I graduated from Juco. I worked for a drug store, oil company & Dr Hill before marriage. I married in 1966, then I worked for Snyder Clinic at Winfield for a time.
In 1969, we moved to the Burns/Cassoday area. We bought an 180 acre farm in 1973. Having never ran any equipment, I learned to run just about everything. I started doing taxes in 1980 for H & R Block. I worked for them for 3 years & then bought the office, running it for 8 years before I sold it in 1991. We also sold the farm that year.
We moved 10 miles east of El Dorado on 3 acres. I worked for a Kawasaki dealer for a little over a year.
Then when my second son bought an accounting office, I went back to doing taxes. He sold it to his younger brother 5 years ago & Mom sort of came with the woodwork. I have also been a U-Haul dealer for 10 years. For the most part, I enjoy it. It's just like any other business, you meet some really nice people & then there are some you could do without.
We have 5 children & they all live within 10 miles of El Dorado. Shane,our oldest is a truck driver for Groendyke Transport. Kirby owns the Two Attics Antique Mall in Park City. Our oldest daughter, Denise works for Applied Industries and does the bookwork for her husband's company. Monty is the accountant & my boss. He also coaches high school girls, basketball, assistant coach for volleyball & track, plus, teaching 2 classes at the junior college. Our youngest daughter, Crustal is teaches 2nd grade & is assistant coach for girls middle school basketball. She is also a published author. I have 9 grandchildren from 20-12 with 3 in 8th grade. All of them call me "Mammy". All of my grandchildren are taller than I am except the youngest. Have to wait and see. I really enjoy them.
My husband is retired from plastering, but is involved with the farmers market. He loves to garden & makes jellies, jams, etc. I DO NOT garden.
I just turned 70 this week. I tell people that my body tells me I am that old, but that really sounds old. Have a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
