Today's Featured Biography
Robert Williams
I left TJ after my Sophomore year and spent my last two years of high school in Newcastle Wyoming. I then went to college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst. in Troy NY getting a BE in Civil Eng. and a ME in Transportation Eng. I worked for Sperry Rand Corp. out of college installing computerized traffic signal control systems in East Coast cities, stationed for about 3 years in DC and another 3 years in Miami. When Sperry transferred me to Miami, I almost quit, but then decided to give it a try. After one winter, I decided it's pretty nice down here after all.
I changed hats and went to work for Miami-Dade County in 1980, charged with operating and maintaining the County's ~3000 traffic signals. Serving the public was a great joy for years, but it got tough after hurricanes began occasionally trashing So. FL. I was eventually promoted to Division Chief and became responsible for street lights, signs, and striping in addition to traffic signals. I'm such a civil serpent. After 32+ years with the County, I retired in mid-2012.
Retirement has been heavenly. I spend my time travelling the country & world w. my wife, hiking, camping, biking, canoeing, kayaking, playing racquetball, and volunteering. I don't know how I ever found time to work.
I married Joanne Koski in '81. She fled Michigan winters about the same time I moved south. She worked for Eastern Airlines and we used to fly all over the world on passes in the '80's. That lifestyle came to an end with the demise of Eastern and arrival of kids.
Our two boys were fortunate to get their math skills from me and all their cultural and social skills from her. They went on to win math and programming contests locally and beyond, yet still be really well-rounded. Our oldest son graduated from Stanford in 2008 and has worked for Google and other tech companies in Manhattan since then. Our youngest son graduated from Duke in 2013, served a 2-year stint with Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta, and is now working for another tech company in Manhattan.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
