Today's Featured Biography
Kristen Elliott Larsen
After graduation I moved to Bozeman, Montana. My family moved there while I was still in high school, so I haven’t been back to Sheridan hardly at all since I no longer have family living there. In Bozeman I attended Montana State University for two years. Met my husband, Rick Larsen, at MSU, and we married in June 1989. Moved to Platteville, Wisconsin where Rick was finishing graduate school as I continued my college work for a year. Then we relocated to LaCrosse, Wisconsin where he continued his work in student affairs in higher education. I finished my degree in LaCrosse and had the chance to study in Paris, France for a semester. Degree is in French and International Relations – although I hardly use it now. Life experience has been my other degree.
Rick’s job in student affairs (Residence Life) has brought moves to Steamboat Spring, Colorado, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Kearney, Nebraska. Our first son, Carl, was born in Colorado. Son Dylan was born in Texas. Lily was born in Nebraska. Nebraska has now become home, as we moved to the Husker state in 2000. Really love the state and the people, but a piece of my heart still remains in the mountains.
Rick and I raised our older sons in Kearney, Nebraska. Our oldest son, Carl, has autism and an intellectual disability, so our parenting and family journey has been unique. Carl’s diagnosis came a bit late, as he was in the first bunch of kids when autism began exploding. My focus was learning as much as possible about autism and disability advocacy. Life with Carl wasn’t easy, but I have learned so much and there have been many blessings too.
In Kearney I got involved in disability advocacy and served as the Director at The Arc of Buffalo County. I managed this non -profit organization that provided information, support, networking, a variety of programs, and recreational opportunities to adults, youth, and small children with developmental disabilities and their families. I LOVED it!
In December 2014 I relocated to Lincoln to take a position as the Executive Director for the Nebraska Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities (my husband and daughter joined me a year later). Here I am able to continue my passion to serve in disability advocacy to help bring system improvements & quality services for individuals w/DD & their families at a state wide level. This federally funded position is tied to the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act promoting the interest and rights of people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Unfortunately the annual training conference for my job is taking place in Salt Lake City on the same date as the reunion, so I won’t be able to attend. I’m really disappointed.
Please take and post lots of pictures. I am hopeful that this site will serve as a springboard to connect with SHS alums! I’m curious to learn about the journeys, twists and turns that many of you have experienced since 1987. Have a great reunion on Friday!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
