Today's Featured Biography
Ken Layton
In high school I was a member of the Audio-Visual equipment crew led by Tilford Gribble up in the Library Building. I packed around those Bell & Howell 16mm film projectors to all the classrooms so everyone could watch a movie. After graduating, I worked for Olympia School District (3 years) and Capitol Amusement (23 years). You will also see me working in local movie theaters as I am a theater technician & projectionist. From April 1994 thru January 2003 I worked as the projectionist/tech at the Skyline Drive-in Theater in Shelton. Many locals recognize me as "the voice" eminating from the drive-in speakers as I also did the pre-show and intermission announcements. I'd start off the show with "Good evening ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Skyline Drive-in theater....". I worked a long time at the now demolished Sunset Drive-in theater in Tumwater also. I repair coin operated commercial video games and pinball machines also. I'm listed in the phone book.
I now work for Cinemark Theatres Amusement Game division servicing the arcade game room at the new Century 14 Theater complex at Capital Mall.
Oh yes, I still pack around Bell & Howell 16mm film projectors and put on public & private 16mm movie showings. The Olympian newspaper did a nice profile story on me in the April 5, 2009 edition in the OlyInside section. The links I had provided to the story have now expired.
