Today's Featured Biography
Karen Tveden Caton
December 2012 update: After HS graduation I moved to Spokane, Washington, and completed the Legal Secretarial training certificate program at Spokane Community College. I worked for two different attorneys over the next 12 years, the first one specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice, and the second one specializing in corporate law and commercial transactions.
I married Hal Caton in May of 1976, and our first child (Rory) was born 2 years later. Our second child (Kamala) was born 2 years after that.
We moved to Texas in 1987, first to Plano for about 3 years where I began working as a personal secretary to Judith McNaught, a New York Times Best Selling historical romance author. That was a blast! We then moved to Tomball (which is a northern suburb of Houston) in 1990, following Hal's upward mobility as a Building Official for increasingly larger cities.
Our whole family became born-again Christians in late 1988, but Kamala has since renounced the faith. Hal and I worship at Metropolitan Baptist Church and serve in the Resource Ministry, which is responsible for providing and distributing the weekly pulpit messages in three formats locally and on the church website: www.themetonlinemedia.org/jones.
Hal finally got fed up with the good ol' boy network of politics as Houston's Building Official and started his own building-code and land-use consulting company in the summer of 1994 then hired Karen as his bookkeeper and office manager in the fall of 1997.
Our son Rory got married in August of 1999 and moved 4 hours away to Dallas after graduating from college. Shortly thereafter they moved back to Houston and spent several years as Houston's 7th top-ranked custom home builder. Sadly, the continuing economic recession forced Rory and his wife Ashley to temporarily cease operations of Heavenly Homes in 2010. As of the summer of 2012 Heavenly Homes is back up and running. Meanwhile Rory and Ashley have given us three beautiful grandchildren (two girls with a boy in between).
Karen has a passion for reading, watching and feeding the back-yard wildlife, keeping up with friends on Facebook, and watching movies in our upstairs big-screen home theatre room. Our favorite place to vacation is Hawaii where Hal was based as a Naval officer from 1970-1973, where we honeymooned in 1976, spent our 8th and 11th anniversaries, and love to snorkel, SCUBA dive and watch those incredible sunsets!
Hal is no longer considered an entrepreneurial work-a-holic, since he's slowing the pace and WANTS to work shorter days since turning 65 last April (2012). He's a "keeper" because he still thinks his wife of more than 36 years is his favorite "wild child."
Our daughter, Kamala, is a fabulous artist who blossomed during a semester of study in Italy during the fall of 2002. She received a Masters in Illustration from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco in 2007 and moved to the Pacific Northwest near Seattle where she she first worked as a paralegal--hard to break into the art world in a down economy--but now is busy taking care of a large garden and our 4th grandchild, an adorable little girl named River.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
