Today's Featured Biography
Lawrence Brooke
After graduation I finished my Chemistry degree at Stanford and received an MBA in 1969 from the UW.
I met my wife, Donna, while at the UW, and after 8 homes, 8 states, two countries and 33 years we returned to Olympia on Budd Bay in 2002 I retired from Exxon/Mobil that year.
We started our “itinerancy” thanks to Uncle Sam. It still is hard to believe that the Viet Nam era is now “history”. We spent two years in Germany after a couple of Army “training” assignments in the States.
We came back to the States in 1972 and began the Exxon induced journey around the country, mostly on the East Coast, with a brief 3 years near San Francisco. Overall, it was a challenging professional environment and I was never at a loss for cocktail conversation topics, even though for some I was a target. Donna and I enjoyed all the new friends and experiences across the country but were happy to return to the Northwest where our families have stayed put and waited for us.
We were blessed with one daughter, Carrie, in 1977 and despite being a Texan by birth and a Northeasterner through school, her “West Coast” genes led to the outdoors. She was finishing a Masters in Fisheries Biology at Montana State completing a thesis on trout habitat in a Yellowstone stream when she passed away unexpectedly in 2007. We try to remember the joys she experienced pursuing her passion. Donna and I have been very fortunate to have the wonderful support of family and friends.
We are able to enjoy traveling and have been on every continent the last couple years except for Antarctica. The freedom to join friends traveling is truly a privilege. I still enjoy playing golf, skiing and an occasional basketball game. Donna and I like to kayak on the Puget Sound and attend theater and ball games here and in Seattle.
Update for the 60th year reunion is that like most everyone we have not traveled much during the Covid years. We still enjoy living on the bay enjoying golf, skiing, pickleball and paddleboarding as well as going to live theater performances in town and the Seattle area with several classmates. Most of our family are in western Washington, and we enjoy sharing holidays and other celebrations.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
