Today's Featured Biography
Dalene Underhill McIntire
Since the Big 50th Reunion, I have become more retired -- that means I've retired from my 9:00-5:00 job, but have taken on more work for the three dog clubs I belong to.
I was on the board of directors of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America for two years and just didn't have enough spare time to continue longer on it. I have been obedience chairman for them for 8 years now, which entails work throughout the year, but I enjoy putting on a trial that both the judges and exhibitors will go home and tell everyone how great it was. Last year the National was in Salt Lake City and this year it will be in Topeka the end of September. They haven't made up their mind yet for 2012, but in 2013 it will be our big Centennial which will be held in Pennsylvania.
I am able to travel a little through my involvement with dog shows and judging. If the area is interesting, I'll take a couple extra days and stay over, My daughter Melanie and I did this last year in Sacramento, California, and had a great time for two days checking out all the stores and museums in Old Town Sacramento -- even panned for gold; no, I only found fools gold, nothing real. This year I will be flying to Alaska to judge a temperament test, obedience trial, and conformation show; later in the year I'll be flying to Hawaii for a week and will be conducting a temperament test there and judging their obedience trial.
I also belong to the GSDC of Washington State where I am very active all year long. My all-breed dog show affiliation is the Seattle Kennel Club (I am obedience chairman for this club as well) which puts on a great two-day show in March of each year at Qwest Event Center with something of interest for everyone -- obedience, rally, agility, conformation, educational breed booths from local clubs, and demonstrations both days of herding, dancing dogs, etc. You can check their web site for the dates of this year's shows.
After 45 years I am still teaching obedience classes and probably will for at least a few more years -- as long as I can stand out in the middle of the floor for several hours and can talk loud enough the students can hear me.
I keep up with classmates involved with the reunion committee as we actually meet regularly between reunions (not just when it's getting close to reunion time again), plus a picnic in the summer and a luncheon during the Christmas holidays. I always enjoy typing the biographical booklet as it keeps me up to date on so many classmates. I loved Dave Nasman's description of a triathalon this last time around.
My two girls and one son all live within 10 miles of my place, so we're able to get together for holidays. The four grandsons are about all grown up, one is a senior in high school and another a sophomore at the U of W where his grades continue to be 4.0, and the other two have been out of school for 4 and 6 years. Still no granddaughters-in-law or great grandchildren yet.
My health is as good as can be expected for an old lady who graduated in 1955!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
