Donald Mathews
Growing up as a Navy brat, the family lived all over... Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. January of my senior year, I moved to Alice, Texas to get away from a alcoholic home life, and graduated high school on my own. After a stint in the Navy as a Nuc Machinist Mate, I worked for a southern pine sawmill near Jacksonville, Florida. Moved up to Oregon in 1986, and accepted a job working for a large industrial contractor on a two year project at the Alyeska Pipeline Terminal in Valdez, Alaska. Fortunate enough to be able to travel around Alaska on long weekends and a couple of vacations. I've been as far north as you can go on the Prudhoe Bay Highway (Yukon River Bridge), and eaten at the northern most Denny's in the world (Fairbanks). The most incredible place I visited was the area of McCarthy and Kennicott, Alaska. After driving for roughly 60 miles on the gravel remains of the Copper River railroad tracks, you come to the Kennicott River and a campground (bring your sleeping bag and $10 a night). After riding an open metal cable car (seats 2) across the river, a ten minute walk takes you to McCarthy. Another 4 miles and you're in Kennicott, an old copper mining town from the early 1900s. Just incredible... After the construction project was over, I was offered a permanent postion and transferred to Sacramento December 1988. Not quite a year later, I opened a field office for the company in Tampa, Florida. Went through a small hurricane which was pretty damn awesome. Later that year South Florida became my home when I opened another office in Oakland Park (Broward County). When I didn't accept a promotion, and the resulting move to Atlanta to get an office straightened out, I made the decision to move back to Oregon. I went to work for the Oregon Executive Department in 1990. Accepted a position with the Oregon Department of Forestry in 1994. Later accepted a position with the Oregon Department of Corrections October 1999. I used my VA benefits and bought my first home December 2000. It's a cool custom built ranch style home built in 1966. 1/2 acre lot, 1580 square feet, woodstove in the family room, L-shaped fireplace in the living room, hardwood floors, and natural Doug Fir trim and paneling. Andy the Sheltie (13) completes the Family Circus. Never been married or seriously involved... too much baggage from growing up, so I enjoy life and the outdoors, volunteer with several local organizations including the Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross as an HIV/AIDS Instructor, Board President of LifeLine AIDS Project, and enjoy the hell out of living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
