Today's Featured Biography
Janice Thalman Snyder
I moved from Dayton, OH to Plano, TX in June 1979 when my husband Ken took a job with JC Penney Insurance. I transferred with NCR to the Dallas office. We lived in Plano, TX (suburb of Dallas) from 1979 to 1996 and then moved closer into Dallas near White Rock Lake. I only worked at NCR a short time in Dallas before I took another job for the Hunt brothers at Placid Oil Company and my boss was in charge of building a skyscraper for the Hunts in downtown Dallas called Thanksgiving Tower. I was an administrative assistant. I worked for Placid Oil Co. for 9 years and then worked two years for T. Boone Pickens company, Mesa Petroleum, as personal secretary to Mrs Pickens. After two years, I took another job for Ray Hunt's company, Hunt Oil Company, and worked 17 yrs. as an administrative assistant for the leasing manager at Fountain Place (a 60 story building in downtown Dallas).
I started running in races in 1984 and have run 69 marathons -- Dallas White Rock Marathon 19 times, New York City Marathon in 1990 and 1992, Boston Marathon in 1988, Houston Marathon, San Antonio Marathon, Austin Marathon, San Francisco Marathon, Mexico City Marathon, London Marathon, and lots of others. Running has been a big part of my life. Unfortunately in 2009 after I ran the Marine Corps Marathon I was running another race a 30k and after 14 miles had ventricular tachycardia and ended up in the hospital and revived with a defibrillator. I have a flaw in the electrical system of my heart and ended up getting an implanted defibrillator in August 2012. I kept on running through 2012 and 2013 and ran four more half marathons, but had some shocks from my defibrillator and have backed off from running. I have also participated in Jazzercise and still go about 4 or more times a week.
I now work for Southwest Securities, Inc. (stockbrokers) in Dallas, TX as an administrative assistant.
My husband, Ken Snyder, is retired and takes care of our 14 year old cocker spaniel, Gypsy.
We have loved lived in Dallas, TX.
I would love to come to the 50th reunion in 2014 and meet all of you.
