Just after graduating from North, I attended a race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. After watching the races I said, I am going to do that! I bought a sports car and did several years of auto-crossing (at that time you had to be 21 to race). I began racing at age 21, did the mandatory drivers schools and lower level races to earn an SCCA National license. I competed in National Championship Competition for 10 years. At a National race in Illinois I met Jim Trueman, founder of the Red Roof Inns motel chain. He liked the way I drove and offer to sponsor me. His help led to a professional drive in the IMSA Camel GT series. At that time I became teammates with Bobby Rahal. I drove in such races as The 24 hours of Daytona, The Sebring 12 Hour Grand Prix of Endurance, The LA Times Grand Prix at Riverside California, and many other international races. I taught race driving for various driving schools and even gave a lesson to Paul Newman ( he and I had an understanding, he did not ask for my autograph and I did not as for his). At the same time, Jim purchased the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and hired me as track manager to revamp the facility and direct daily management. After Jim’s death, I became Director of Operations for the Columbus 500 street race. When that race ran its course, I had to get a real job. Currently I am eeking out a living in sales while still enjoying being around high performance cars. I am very happily married to Vangie now for 16 years.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
