Today's Featured Biography
Roger Good
Started out as a child. Summers in the woods as a camp brat. Northwood Elementary, Indianola Junior High (First of its Kind in These United States), North High. Ventured forth from my guarded lair to Colorado College. Zoology. Meanwhile also 12-string guitar folky. On graduation, taught sciences at Cripple Creek HS (Colorado).
Burned out on teaching, started playing in a band. The local TV station came to do a show about the band. I was fascinated by what they were doing. Wrangled a job in TV production. Learned lots about production, kept playing music and got into martial arts - 2nd degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu (Okinawan) karate. taught that for a while on the side.Then hit a ceiling at the TV job (nobody above me was quitting) Met Jane. We went to Greece for a year just because. Came back to KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs. Worked my way up to Program Director and producer of all local programming. Then it began to dawn on me that I didn't know what I was doing. Went back to school (grad school at Ohio University cuz I had a free place to live in a little cabin in the woods that my family had built as a getaway) At the end of that, I was offered a job on the faculty.
I'm still on the faculty, but have grown into a specialty: video postproduction (digital editing, motion graphics, animation, DVD authoring. I was an Avid Certified Instructor for a while, now an Apple Certified Trainer in Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Apple Motion. I run a training center on the side for production professionals and academics to get certified as users of Apple's Professional Video Applications.
Jane and I built a log house on a huge pond just outside Athens where we raised our daughter Emily who is an amazing artist/designer. She had a magical childhood, free range in Appalachian woods with horses and ducks and chickens and is a water spirit, too, having grown up with ponds and a lake in Canada that we've spent time in/on every year of her life.
I am chairing a small group of smart and funny faculty in a course sequence called Digital Media: Special Effects, Games and Animation.
Nearing a time when I could retire, but I'm having lots of fun, so. . . But I could be very happy without a job, too, so. . .
