Today's Featured Biography
Terri Capps Powell
After graduation --- I tried the college scene at Brevard Jr, I majored in forest parties and faithful attendance of the soccer games. After freshman year I came home hoping to regain my long lost carefree high school days only to be told get a haircut, get a job, be somebody (this was no joke)...so I left Sonny's Real Pit B-B-Que after I met the Navy Recruiter at one of my tables who got me an all expense paid vacation to Orlando, FL for 8 wks. I was a "Lifer" with the US Navy for 6 yrs + and separated to pursue other ambitions. (But wait there is MORE) During sobering moments thanks to AA, I realized a civilian job, family life and a move closer to NC was what I really wanted ....That was 89'I joined the Navy Reserves and Civil Service and am still trying to move back to Tarheel country ever since. I got orders to DC in 1991 to support Desert Storm/Shield. Fooled around and fell in love, got baptized ('96)Southern baptist think Moravians are unchurched (go figure), got married, had 2 beautiful boys, bought a home, and retired from reserves. (and not necessarily in that order). 2 things happen when you live here you either get married or divorced. It's been 15 years, you figure the math. I miss the adventures and my friends that penned in my yearbook stay sweet and don't ever change but hey life happens. It isn't what happens to me but how I handle things that matters and I am grateful the 20th reunion helped me connect with 3 special ladies that I had some of the most unforgettable moments of my life with back at East. We all keep in touch via email and phone.
Funniest or most unusual occupation? Volunteering at the Congressional Cemetary while on 2 wks Active Duty as a Naval Reservist. What started out as doing pay and personnel for the students in a National Security Course turned into updating records for plots at this historical non profit organization. I also got to do a little yard work outside the entrance of the main building.
Best memory of high school?
It wasn't being at East Meck. It was every single party I went to. East Meck parties rock!
What bars did you hang out at? Dixie Electric Co is the only one I remember; Instead of the bar, we went to the Lake every chance we could.
Favorite song while in high school?
"Flirting with Disaster" -- Molly Hachet
Favorite singer/band in high school? The Knack --- My Sheronna
Who would you especially like to see at the reunion? Pop Miller
What have been the highlights in your life since high school? Raising my sons, Serving in the military, and becoming clean and sober in 1988.
States and countries visited? FL, MD, SC, GA, ME, VT, MA, OH, PA, VA
SP, GE, UK (GB), FR, IC, Portgual, Rock of Gibralter, Netherlands
How many miles will you travel to attend this reunion? Almost 400 miles
Whom was your favorite teacher? Ms Farris or DOC (Latin class)
What was the first car you owned? '72 Cutlass Supreme Metallic Burgandy w/a cream top.
Any additional comments or stories?
Where were you when the world top turning? ... In my DC office while staff attorneys hovered over my desk anxiously listening to my radio to learn what happened. We were detained for 1 1/2 hrs watching the smoke rise from the other side of the Potomac on the 5th floor of US SEC HQ. I knew 2 of the Military Reserve officers from a unit I worked in for 8 yrs. One died in the Pentagon and the other a commerical pilot of 1 of the aircrafts hi-jacked. I forgive but I will never forget.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
