Today's Featured Biography
William Rasmussen
After graduating, I attended Normandale Jr. College and worked at Donaldson's Southdale. In 1976, I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in History. In 1979, I started working for C.S. McCrossan construction company. Then, while laid off during the winter, my mother asked me to volunteer to teach English to Lao children at her school in Minneapolis. I fell in love with them and then decided to become an ESL teacher. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Education. I soon got a job with Hennepin Technical Center teaching adults and Minneapolis Public Schools teaching children. In 1985, I got a chance to teach foreign born adults and worked there until 1994. In January of 1987, I was approached by SHAPE-South Hennepin Adult Programs in Education to also teach foreign born adults. I started the program with one student and it took off from there. The program is now called Metro South and in 2002, our program moved to Lincoln High School which is owned by General Dynamics. I was the one who got the plaque of the school put up and I have seen the Bears. I even pushed to have the school colors in the school, but it fell on deaf ears.I still am teaching and plan on doing so until at least age 66.
In 1987, while teaching English to foreign born adults, I met my wife, who is Vietnamese and who worked for the US Embassy in Saigon. She saw the last Americans leave the Embassy compound. We got married in 1988 and our son Joshua was born in 1991. We are still happily married and live in Minnetonka.
I still live in the past and cherish my time at Lincoln High School. I would give anything to hear the school anthem song again as well as see the school returned to its former glory. The good news is that Bloomington Schools has a long term plan to buy back the school.
I also was able to save the remaining Bloomington/Lincoln yearbooks that were going to be thrown out. I have them in my garage. Some years ago while at the Bloomington Administration office, I inquired about all the memorabilia from the school. Sadly, all the pictures, trophies and other items were discarded long ago. It is almost like the school never existed. But, my passion still is for the school and will always stay that way the rest of my life.
P.S. I am sure everyone remembers that our yearbooks were delayed and we were not able to have friends sign them. The night of the graduation still remains fresh in my mind. We got our diplomas, then turned in our caps and gowns and it was all over. The swinging sixties turned into the reality seventies and all of us went our separate ways.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
