Today's Featured Biography
Diana Craig Marquardt
After graduating WTHS in 1957, I attended Michigan State University from 1957-1961.
I got married to Jim Marquardt in 1961. Since my husband Jim was in the oil and
gas business, we began a long journey in living in various cities.
I began my Master of Social Work at University of Michigan. My first job was with
the State of Michigan Children's division. In that position, I completed many
adoptions, supervised state wards, and any other assignment that was for the safety
of the children. We lived in St. Joseph, Michigan and then we moved to Cleveland,
Ohio where I was employed by Cuyahoga County. Children Services. I wrote several
programs for the county working with at-risk students. We then moved to Boston,
Mass where I worked for the juvenile court. From Boston we moved to New Orleans.
LA and I was employed by the Red Cross as a social worker doing crisis counseling.
We left New Orleans but not before we experienced our first two hurricanes. We
then moved to St. Louis, Missouri and I did not work. We moved to Ashland, KY
where my husband was Vice President of Valvoline Oil. Then in 1980 we moved to
Houston, TX and I was employed by Klein ISD and Harris County Children Protective
Services. In this job, I counseled at-risk students in crisis and particularly
worked with helping kids graduate from high school. I retired March 2016.
Unfortunately, in 2010, I lost my husband, and in 2011, I lost my daughter.
I can now say that I've been in four hurricanes, most recently, Harvey. As you
may have heard, Harvey destroyed Houston. I was very fortunate to have little to
no damage to my home. I look forward to counseling with private agencies in my
retirement.
