Today's Featured Biography
Barbara Sayles Hofmeister
After graduation I joined the Air Force (1955)and in 1956 I Married a guy I met at March Air Force Base, CA (Bob Flath). We were married on and off (I actually divorced him and 4 years later remarried him).
I worked as a medical technologist (career learned in the AF), until my last child was born then with 4 children at home, I decided I could spend more time with them if I sold Tupperware. That was a great career and I ended up in the top 10% as a manager.
Bob opened a photo studio in Ortonville in 1977 and we divorced for the final time in 1981. I moved to Haslett, MI (near E.Lansing) where I worked in a doctor's office doing her laboratory work.
I had attended Oakland Community College full-time for two years from 1972-1974 on the GI Bill. I loved college even though I had 4 kids in school at that time (in 3 different schools--elementary, Jr high and high school). Primarily I took English, creative writing, acting and psychology classes.
I met my current husband, Ron Hofmeister in 1983 after I moved to Haslett and we were married in 1984. He worked for the Michigan Dept of Transportation and when he retired in March of 1989 we sold everything we owned and moved into a little motorhome to travel the U.S. We were only going to do that for one year then settle down on property we owned near Leland. Three and one half years later, we bought a bigger motorhome and sold the property up north and didn't stop. In 1996 we got an even bigger motorhome and didn't stop full-timing until we had logged 14 years.
We are authors of three books on the full-timing lifestyle and have a huge web site. But now we are living in the most beautiful spot we could ever imagine---Gold Canyon Arizona. We are nestled at the base of the Superstition Mountains.
Our community is an active adult community of 1600 homes. We have something here that I always wanted and that is a theater group. I have been THE director of plays here for the last five years. And last year we found another director so I got to act in a play which was a ball.
I also produce and direct a variety show once a year. I still pantomime and love anything to do with the stage.
Something new I have been doing over the last 4 years is teaching classes on How to Write the Story of your Life. Everyone has their own unique story and it has been gratifying to see people get their stories on paper.
I have finally finished my life story and it is available from Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Rocky-Road-The-Good-Life/dp/1479248495/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347680433&sr=8-2&keywords=My+rocky+road+to+the+good+life--the+whole+story
2023
I live in Lees Summit, Missouri at John Knox Village. My husband, Ron, died in 2016 and I stayed in our home until 2021 when I moved here to be near my youngest son. I love this community and keep busy with card playing and I am still teaching Life Story Writing.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
