Today's Featured Biography
Joseph Enzor
After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1969 (Political Science, English Lit.), I entered Maryland's law school in the Fall of that year, but left in the first semester due to unanticipated financial issues.
No longer eligible for an educational deferment, I was subsequently drafted into the Army in April of 1970, trained in advanced infantry and electronics and, at the conclusion of my training spent nearly all of 1971 at a highly-secure Signal Corps communications facility in Phu Lam (a suburb of Saigon in South Vietnam), finishing my service as a Staff Sergeant (Sp6) Non-Commissioned Officer in December of 1971.
Later, I became an executive and shareholder in several technology companies, living and working in Northern California (Santa Clara/Silicon Valley), North Carolina, Southern California, Massachusetts, Colorado, Idaho and, finally, Colorado again (where I still reside). The organizations I led were, typically, responsible for product line management (i.e., markets and products definition, development team project management, product launch, and ongoing product life-cycle management) of leading-edge digital network products, and I traveled extensively throughout this period working with U.S./international product development and distribution partners. The companies for which I worked included operating units of IBM (ROLM Corp., an IBM acquisition), ITT (Business & Consumer Communications Division), and General Signal (Tau-Tron Digital Networks Test & Measurement Division), as well as two fast-growth, VC-funded digital network product companies (MICOM Systems, Inc. and McData Corp.).
After more than two decades of working in the technology industry, in 1999 I decided to revisit what I considered to be the unfinished business of law school, subsequently earning two graduate degrees -- a J.D. and a Masters in Tax (LLM). I opened my own law firm in 2004, just as I was turning 58. From that point through the end of 2024 I maintained my own private practice, focusing on startup entity formations, M&A (mergers & acquisitions), intellectual property and tax strategies. My clients were, typically, startup/pre-IPO technology companies. During that period I also developed a significant (mostly pro bono) practice with numerous non-profit clients, and participated as a board member for several.
Additionally, taking a break from my practice, for nearly four years I was the General Counsel and a Board Member of a rapidly growing IT company (GTRI - Global Technology Resources, Inc.), the business of which focused on the design/installation/service of U.S. government agency/military digital network products and systems.
I'm divorced, and my three children are spread out across the landscape: My son Noah (now "Brother Dunstan") is a Catholic Monk (Benedictine Order) and Assistant Professor of Theology at Saint Anselm Abbey & College in Manchester, NH, and has a Ph.D in Religious History from Boston College. He is also a Trustee of that college; My oldest daughter, Laura, has a Ph.D in Biology from the University of South Carolina, and is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Hartford, CT. Her research focuses on the effects of global warming on aquatic micro-organisms; My youngest daughter, Julie, is retired from a position managing financial aid and student communication programs for the University of Colorado.
Although I've now significantly reduced the time I devote to my legal practice, I still occasionally get involved in law-related (pro bono) projects that interest me. Admittedly, however, I've become more than a bit of a slacker professionally. Living in close proximity to the front range of the Rocky Mountains, I'm far more likely to be found hiking or fly fishing, pursuing various social/cultural interests, or maybe just generally hanging out under the cool, deep-blue Colorado sky.
All the best!
