Terry Gowen
I graduated from UofL in 1995. It seems like a long time to be in college, but I just couldn’t give up the student priced season tickets and free entry into the gym. I finally decided to graduate when schooling the frat boys on the basketball courts was no longer so much fun. My BS in Sociology was pretty much BS. I went to get a job intending to save the world, but saving the world only paid about $25K a year. I figured some other, more altruistic soul should probably do it.
Since saving the world was no longer an option, I figured I’d travel around abroad for a bit. I crossed the big pond (aka The Ohio River) and spent time in the great metropoli of Indianapolis, Cincinnati and St Louis. I have to say St Louis is one of my favorite towns. Did you know that they make Budweiser there ??? I took a tour of the Budweiser plant twice a day for 4 days until they caught on that I was just there for the free sample.
Shortly thereafter, my traveling days ended and it was time to get married and move on with life. I met a girl in a bar and asked her to marry me. She said that her life sucked up to that point so marrying me seemed like a pretty good idea. We got hitched. Some y’all were there. Then we got unhitched. Unfortunately, to her “for better or worse” really meant for better, or until I quit taking my meds. She quit taking her meds, took all my stuff but was nice enough to let me keep my most prized possession – my son. I read a lot a fairy tales to him and decided that living happily ever after sounded like a good plan for us.
Just when we got settled in and content, life happened… another unanticipated, tricky turn that changed everything. If you’re interested in learning more, I’ll tell you at the reunion.
