Today's Featured Biography
Jaye Beisler Lavelle
I guess I will always be eternally greatful to Manual High School. I met John when I was cheering for Manual in the City/County game summer of senior year. He played for the city team representing Trinity High School. We dated long distance in college with me at WKU and he at Springhill college. We have been very blessed since 1976. It's hard to believe that it has been 35 years since we walked the halls of duPont Manual. What a great school, What a great group of people I was lucky enough to have around in my teen years. Well I guess I will just have to say it! "I AM SURE WE WERE THE BEST CLASS OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE EVER WALKED THROUGH THOSE DOORS!" Sure we might not have been the smartest or the most athletic, but we were a very close class that seemed to care about each other and got along so well. What other class came up with a Junior Cheer. Do you remember the time junior year at first assembly when we tried to do the Junior Cheer back at the seniors who were always yelling at us about running the school? Okay here goes. We can yell. We can Shout. We will see the seniors out. When we do. You will see. We'll the class of SEVENTY. Yeah JUNIORS" Mr Reis almost blew a gasket. He lectured us about how no class had ever done that before and we had better not try it again. Needless to say you juniors in second assembly never got the chance to join us in the fun. Or how about winning that Male Manual game in front of 20,000 fans. Watching the Male team carry that barrell was the best. However I will still be the first to protest that we were not given Monday off after the game. Thanks to the Seniors who put the blinking Beat Male sign on the top of the building before the game. It will be great seeing so many of you that I've lost touch with over the years. Thank you to all of you who have worked so hard to give us this opportunity to reunit again. I know it will be a fun weekend. Does anybody still do the funky chicken?
2010 update. Since our last reunion I have become an empty Nester. John and I are enjoying ourselves. We have dived the Great Barrier Reef, Visited Argentina, climbed to the top of Mauchi Picchu, golfed the teeth of the dog in the Dominican Republic, and I have been to China with my sister Jan and waved to the class of 70 from the Great Wall. Our boys are now young men and they are the joy of our lives. We are still waiting for grandchildren and wives. We have been very blessed and we know it. Manual High School is still a big part of my life and who I became. I learned to make friends there, how to yell really loud (i am sure it came in handy when the guys were young), and that each of us had a different life at home than we had at school. We became friends and over the years I have had those friendships with me were ever I went. I could see the smile of classmates, Marlena Gardner had the best smile she was always smiling. Football games make me think of William Louden throwing the football, basketball games of Buster and dribbling the basketball, Cheerleaders always make me think of the great group of girls I got to cheer with and the fun we had. I could see Mr Charmoli saying we should get the day off after we beat Male. Hand dryers make me think of Londa Gardner blow drying her hair after PE. Girl sports make me think of Marsha Aiken and Paula Skaggs. They were two of the best athletes and if title nine had been around we would have seen a lot of college coaches looking for them. Bands make me think of the marching 100 and Brenda Evans. The band practiced as hard if not harder than any athlete in the school. They were always there entertaining us and we were so lucky to watch them for three years.
If you are wondering where I am going with this? I had a roommate at WKU who died of cancer 15 years ago and she said to me "That the only good thing about this disease is that it gave her plenty of time to die." She said that she had heard from so many people around the country that she had lost contact with, who called to tell her she was special to them. She said she didnot know she had meant so much to so many.
I say to you as we are getting older, come to the reunion. You may find that you were special to someone in a way you did not know. Or come and tell someone how special they were to you. Did they make you smile when you were having a bad day and you still remember them for it. Never miss the opportunity to visit with old friends.

Updated 2015
We are still empty nesters. John and are very blessed to have our health, family and friends. I still consider myself a very lucky person to have attended Manual High School with so many wonderful young people. We laughed, we cried, we worked hard to achieve our many successes, and we were friends. Who at the age of 16 could ask for anything more. Thank you fellow classmates for giving me so many fantastic memories of my high school years.
