Today's Featured Biography
Jane Finkley Jackson
I graduated from The U of I in Education in June, 1971, and was married in July to Martin Jackson (class of '66) I started teaching 5th grade in Normal, Il, that August at Fairview Elementary School. I taught at the same school (5th, 6th, & 4th grades) for 33 years, retiring in 2004. During those years, I had a baby girl (Meredith) in 1977. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1999 and from the University of Illinois School of Law in 2003. She married William (Keith) Pitts in 2001. Oddly enough after living her entire life in Normal, she ended up getting a job as an attorney in DECATUR. Her husband is a middle school teacher, and they had a baby girl (Madeline) in 2004. Martin & I separated in 1993, but didn't divorce until 2001. Cancer(mine) took its toll on our marriage of 21 years. During the separation, I completed my Master's Degree at Illinois State University (specializing in Reading)in 1997 and now have a part time job there. I'm loving retirement-don't know how I found time to work! I try to swim every day (it helps the knees) and enjoy lots of hobbies (scrapbooking & cross stitching) and a little travel. My brother, Dick Finkley, (class of '64) teaches business & law at Governor's State University. He hopes to retire next summer. My parents didn't live long enough to see Meredith living in Decatur (my dad died in '95 and my mom in '99), but I love being back "home" every Monday & Tuesday babysitting "Maddie" and even attend my old church (Grace Methodist)once in a while since Meredith & family are worshipping there. Life has come full circle for me, & I look forward to seeing some of the people at the reunion who have been a part of it!
Since last posting this bio I have been blessed with 2 additional granddaughters, Leah who just turned 8 and Jenna who is 2 and a half. Meredith now lives in Forsyth, and I still babysit a couple of days a week driving down from Normal. I also volunteer at Leah's school on Thursdays. My brother had retired and is living in California. He lost his wife to cancer 8 years ago, but Meredith's family and I just returned from attending his wedding in Carpinteria. He's found love a second time around-so happy for him! Hope this finds all EHS alums enjoying health and happiness.
