Martha Hiser Dauphinais

After graduating from the U of I in 1970 I taught German for 1 year at Eisenhower! I married Richard Dauphinais in June 1971 and we moved to Arizona where I completed my MA in German Literature (worthless degree) and taught at Agua Fria Union High School. I taught German for 8 years and then went back to school to obtain mathematics certification. I taught German and Math at Agua Fria for 5 more years and then moved to Tolleson Union High School as a math teacher. I taught there for 3 years and we then moved to the Boston Area when Dick took a job there. While in the Boston Area I taught at Newton North High School in Newton,MA, as a long term sub and then taught one year at Milford High School in Milford, MA. After 2 years we escaped the northeast and moved to Maryland - northeast of Baltimore where we have now been since 1988. I retired in 2010 after 40 years of teaching of teaching, 23 of which were at Bel Air High School in Bel Air, MD. While there I was Chairman of the Math Department, and taught AP Calculus, Trigonometry and Geometry. My husband worked for a division of General Electric until he retired in 2009. Our daughter Jenn graduated in 2001 from the University of Virginia and got her Masters in Environmental Engineering in 2003 from Virginia Tech and then added an MBA. She is an Environmental Engineer for the army (civilian contractor) at Aberdeen Proving Ground and lives with her husband and twins, Liam and Eva,about 20 minutes away. Our Son,Scott, got his Building Construction Degree in 2004 from Virginia Tech. Presently he is a Project Manager for Corman Construction in Baltimore. He and his wife have 2 children, Camryn and Nicholas, and live about 45 minutes from us. My mother died in 2009, after which my dad moved to assisted living in Rockford, Illinois, where now at age 98, he still lives. My brother is a cardiologist in Rockford. He and his wife have 3 kids and are grandparents of 10. We see my family every summer when we spend a week with them fishing in northern Wisconsin. We never get back to Decatur since Dad is not there any longer. In retirement, I am active in Chesapeake Cancer Alliance - a volunteer fund raising arm of Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, AAUW, and DAR. Dick is heavily into woodworking. We live on a small farm with lots of chores, huge garden, 3 horses and a pony for the grandkids. I ride trail on my Tennessee Walker, Oliver, as often as possible.
