Today's Featured Biography
Penny Patton Reed
Married to Ron for 34 years, who I met at Western Ill. my sophmore year (1968).
Two sons: Shane Thomas (34), living in Dayton, NJ & engaged to be married lst time on Sept. 30, 2006; Eric Cameron (31), living in San Clemente, CA & married with two beautiful little boys, Jake 2.5 yrs. & Tyler 10 mos. I would be remiss not to mention my two dogs, Zoey & Chelsea, who are my faithful companions as Ron travels a lot for work.
We have moved over 18 times throughout our marriage - at least 12 of those as corporate moves and the rest within the cities we lived. Not sure where we call "home". I have not been back to Decatur for a number of years - my father died in 1972 and my brother has lived in southern Ill. for 30+ years.
I completed my bachelors in 1976 from Ill. State Univ. after my second son was born. Since we moved quite a bit, I worked on and off in a variety of jobs, mostly related to marketing & public relations. While we lived in New Jersey, I earned an MA in Addictions Counseling and worked with adolescents in long term residential treatment. Since moving back to California five years ago (for the third time), I have not worked. Until recently I have been very involved in the Women's Ministries at our church and I will continue to do so, but to a lesser degree.
Ron will most likely leave his job of 25 years with Mars, Inc. (the M&M candy company, not the planet Mars) by the end of this year and we are in the process of deciding what this next phase of our life will look like. As I mentioned above, Ron has had to travel a lot over the years - think he is ready to get off that crazy merry-go-round, but wants to continue working either on his own or for a smaller company with little or no travel.
It is hard to believe that 40 years has come & gone for the EHS Class of 1966 -- with careers beginning to wind down for some, familes raised, and now grandparents for most of us. I look forward to returning to Decatur and to a wonderful reunion.
Thank you to all of you who are working hard to make this reunion happen.
