Today's Featured Biography
Pam Ernest Richart
I met Al at the University of Illinois, and we got married during my senior year while he was on leave. After 20 years of moving around (from Illinois to California, Ohio, Louisiana, England [RAF Bawtry], Kansas, and Louisiana again) with my USAF husband, we moved to Cary, a growing suburb of Raleigh NC. I had been a stay-at-home mom, active in my girls' activities and school: Brownies, PTA, and classroom, and always ready as a chauffer for getting them and their friends to and from gymnastics, dance and piano lessons etc.
I was also active with Officers' Wives Club, in charge of various groups, including Garden Club and Special Activities. Military life was fun with all the social occasions, including our annual Fourth of July bash in England!! The Brits loved American hamburgers and Budweiser!! While living in Shreveport, LA I managed to get my Masters in Communication Disorders from LSU Medical Center, but my heart will always be with the Illini! And the Chief!!
Al retired in 1989 and started working in heating and air conditioning. He was also recruited as official photographer for my choir since he had more pixels than anyone else!
I am now enjoying my role as Director of Speech-Language Pathology at a large state medical/psychiatric hospital! It is a challenging and very interesting job, and I have had to use everything I have learned in order to serve such a varied population. Most of what I do, though, is to wallow in swallowing! I have evaluated many patients who have had strokes, head injuries, dementia, and other neurological disorders, and have performed hundreds of video Xray swallow studies. I probably glow in the dark by now!
Both of our girls took advantage of the excellent educational opportunities here. Jenny graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill (Tarheels) and Amy from NC State (Wolfpack), and they both have productive jobs in the area. Jenny is married with three children, James (8 years), Abby (5 years), and Alexander (born 11-03-06). Amy is engaged to Jason Adams, a medic in Special Forces stationed at Fort Bragg. They plan to get married in April, 2008 at the Elizabethan Gardens, Roanoke Island near the Outerbanks! Her Plott hound and his cat get along pretty well some of the time!
In my spare time, I enjoy music!! I am involved in a large community chorus, the Symphonic Choir of Cary Concert Singers, one of the three best in the area, I was told! I also enjoy attending live concerts, and I putter around on the piano (Thank you Miss Appenzeller!).
We love the area and the weather. I especially enjoy my garden with all the azaleas, camellias, gardenias, blue hydrangeas and other beautiful flowers.
When not in the garden, I like to knit, design knitting projects, and teach others. A neighbor taught me when I was 10!! Can't sit and knit too long, since my SPCA dog demands nightly walks!
My history of frequent trips to Decatur may be coming to an end. My father died last year, and in December, 2006 (after the ice storm and power outage), I brought my mother to NC to live. She just moved into a posh retirement community and is meeting new friends. The only thing is that they are all so old!!!
Still much to do. Hopefully some time this year the Eastmoreland house will be ready to sell. In the meantime, I look forward to attending the reunion of the Class of '67 and warbling again with Concert Choir!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
