Today's Featured Biography
Candice Covington Battson
The years have simply flown past at lightning speed. After graduation I spent a semester at the University of Idaho and returned to marry my first date, Garry Battson. We have lived in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Pocatello as we finished our degrees at ISU. At the same time, for some crazy reason, we built our family. As of our 10 year high school reunion, I was one of the most reproductive souls there with four children, besides Lynetta because she had a bonus baby (five) with her twins!
Ten years later many of you have out done us! I often joke that my profession as a labor & delivery nurse is the reason why I had so many of my own babies – “occupational hazard”, when the reverse is probably more realistic. I was fascinated and grateful for my delivery nurses and I hope now that I provide the same for my patients. I now work at Saint Alphonsus in Boise and absolutely love it. I am a member of the maternal fetal medicine transport team and buddy up with life flight and the NICU team to go save lives and be heroes to our tiniest most helpless citizens, LOL. It is truly rewarding and I work with some of the most wonderful women (and a few men) you could ever meet. Garry is an Aircraft Mechanic and has worked with all types of aircraft: helicopters, private jets and the big boys 757's etc while contracting out of state.
We’ve lived on this side of the state since 2001. We bought a house in the mountains outside of Boise, our kids ride the school bus for nearly an hour to attend school in Idaho City (pop. Less than 500). It is quite rural as the nearest store to our home is over a 50 mile roundtrip. Yet the views are breathtaking, we have seen a ton of wildlife from our deck. Our boys pack their BB guns or 22’s and hike up to the top of our property in the summer, take a swim in the creek or the nearby reservoir, and tear it up on their motorcycles at will.
Our son Gray, 18 is a freshman at BSU and lives in the dorms, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so proud as the night he spoke at graduation and commanded the crowds’ attention, he is a funny, intelligent, gifted individual. Brock, 16 is a sophomore in high school and our rambunctious one. He’s the dirt bike rider, snowboarder, outdoorsy dude. School to him is okay because that is where the girls are, he is our social animal. Aja, 14 (pronounced Asia) is in eighth grade and towers above her mother already. She is a basketball player and a great student. I often call my mother to plea for guidance only to hear her laughing at me and telling me that I have a daughter exactly like I was. Our baby Kage just turned 11. He will most definitely give us a run for the money. He is adaptive and learned all the tricks from the older 3 and uses it for personal gain. He has bold red hair, I took that as a sign in 1997 that our family was complete... red = stop sign or caboose. It is fun and challenging parenting a bunch of teenagers. It sometimes startles me to think I will have an empty nest in less than a decade as the past 10 slipped by so quickly.
My extended family all live over here now. My sister Jill is a surgeon in Boise, Shelley is a financial forecaster with a big title I never seem to get right. She telecommutes for a company located in Maryland. Danae is an ER nurse whom occasionally works with me at St Al's. My parents are retired and live in a nice home off the Boise River, it was tough for them to leave Blackfoot and the home they lived in for the past 40+ years, but seem to be settling in nicely. I sure love having all of them nearby.
I look forward to seeing everyone. I especially encourage all local classmates to attend; it seems many of you chose not to go to our 10th. Please attend and we can laugh at each other for looking so darn OLD. In my mind’s eye you’re all 18, and then I see pictures and go huh! I am certain it is the same as you see me!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
