Today's Featured Biography
Eric Benson
After graduation from CCHS I worked and skied for 2 years in Denver.
In 1988, I started college at Luther College in Decorah, IA. It was during my junior year abroad in London, England that I met my wife Francesca. Francesca was born and raised in Rome, Italy. In 1992 after graduating with a BA in economics, I moved to the Twin Cities and have lived here ever since. About this time I started working in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster. In 1994 & 1995, Francesca and I were married in Minneapolis, MN and Rome, respectively. (John Nichols was my best man.) In 1997, I started attending the Univ. of St. Thomas part-time to get my MBA. 1999 brought on our first child, Isabel and in 2001, her sister Bianca was born three years and one day apart (Nov 17 & 18). 2000 brought on a career change from my claims operations background and I accepted a risk analyst job at a then subsidiary of Xcel Energy, NRG Energy, in their risk management department. In the summer of 2002, I graduated from UST with a MBA with a concentration in Risk and Insurance Management. Completely unrelated, that summer brought on the implosion of the deregulated energy sector and I jumped ship due to an impending bankruptcy at NRG. In early 2003, I got back into the insurance carrier side of the business and I landed at a little known, behemoth company called Allianz. (According to Forbes in 2005, Allianz is the 6th largest corporation in the world with 180,000 employees in 70 countries around the globe.) I have been at Allianz ever since working as an Operational Risk Manager and I have aspirations to move abroad when the opportunity arises. To uphold my fascination with risk, 2005 brought on an additional finance concentration for my MBA and I also earned an Associate of Risk Management (ARM) professional designation. All along, I continue to enjoy playing men’s league ice hockey year-round, hunting with my two Springer Spaniels, fishing for walleye, traveling to Europe to visit Francesca’s family and riding bikes with my girls. Life is grand!
