Today's Featured Biography
Martha Pfeffer Vaughn
Life does take many turns over the years, and I never thought that I would end up retired in Hot Springs Village Arkansas. My husband,Lou and I moved here in 2005.
After high school, I started to college at Loyola University in New Orleans. I transferred to Memphis State University for sophomore and junior years with plans to enter UT to complete an RN degree. That plan was derailed when I married after my junior year and moved to Philadelphia, PA. The marriage did not last, and I returned home to my parents in 1965, and my son Michael was born. I completed my bachelors one year later driving back and forth to Southern State College.
My first job was with Childrens Services in Camden, Ark. I then worked as a counselor in a federal program at Grambling State University for several years completing my Masters at night at Louisiana Tech University. In 1977 I started my career path at Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas. The move to Sherman with Michael who was in the sixth grade was a big one for me. I was in Human Resources and moved into several jobs at the Sherman facility. It was at that point that my interest in Law continued, and I was responsible for Affirmative Action plans and EEO Compliance. Women were just breaking in to the exempt work force.
I started dating my husband in 1980, and we were married in 1984. Mike was going to college at the University of Dallas. Lou and I both transferred to Dallas to work and stayed there until we retired. I was the US Employee Relations Manager at Texas Instruments at the time of my retirement in 2001. I continued to do consulting work in HR until we moved to Arkansas in 2005.
Lou and I love travel, particularly international. I remain ever interested in Human Rights issues remembering times when we marched in Gay Pride Parades in Dallas,Texas. It is not just Gay rights but all rights that can get my blood pressure up. During retirement I stay busy doing the following: book club; volunteer at the Animal Shelter; member of a garden club and floral design group; and and Leader of a Shepherd Group for the Village United Methodist Church. Tom Reaves and his wife Diana go to the same church. I am always running into Rachel Miller Newman and Fred.
This year was a banner year because Eleanor Brown Borda and her husband visited. We have vowed to stay in touch. Eleanor and I were neighbors during high school. We have also visited with Mike and Betty Rogers in Little Rock.
Life is good for Lou and me. Naturally we are like everyone else with day to day concerns at times. Lou is an avid golfer, I refuse to sweat. Naturally we are getting to that age where we have the aches and pains that come with age. We think we are fortunate to live in a beautiful place surrounded by trees, deer, and wild turkeys not to mention bears and fox.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
