Barbara Anderson Edelman
Hi All- What a great website and what fun I have had reading up on all of you guys!
I am really excited to be in contact with some old classmates and am enjoying catching up with old friends. At this point I am not sure if I am coming to the reunion, because I waited until the last minute to decide whether I was going to attend. Since I didn’t clear my schedule I’m not sure I won’t have to work. It may all come together for me at the last minute, I hope.
After high school I went to LSU (for some reason) then transferred to VCU after a year. I had a blast living in the Fan and trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life besides wait tables (I was once called "surly" by one of my customers!). With a degree in Mass Communications, I decided to move to San Francisco, CA. I loved California (and still long for SF) and “found” myself there (waiting tables) and decided that I really wanted to be a psychotherapist when I grew up. On a lark I applied to Washington University School of Social Work in Saint Louis and ended up moving to the Midwest where I grew up and became a therapist. I would have never predicted settling in Saint Louis, MISSOURI!) After struggling to find work that I really enjoyed, it was a relief to discover my niche in my late twenties. Since then I’ve worked a variety of social work jobs, focusing on mental health and psychotherapy. I continue to work in mental health and on my own mental health! Life is good. I married an artist/teacher 7 years ago who loves to travel with me. We both have a soft spot for dogs and parent (overindulge) two mutts. I am amazed as I write that 20 years has gone by so fast! It’s funny what I remember and don’t remember. I’d better start working on keeping my brain young!
Thanks to everyone on the reunion committee for your hard work. It looks like it will be a very memorable weekend. If I’m not there, I’ll be at the next one! Best Wishes- Barb
