Today's Featured Biography
John Bloodsworth
For the past 35 years, I have had the opportunity to tell the remarkable story of San Antonio's blossoming, growth and emergence as an internationally recognized hospitality and culinary destination through my agency, Publicity Ranch. From marketing director for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo to the agency of record for San Antonio’s oldest Fiesta tradition, The Battle of Flowers Parade, I have written about and produced special events showcasing our city's burgeoning entertainment development. Creating and implementing publicity campaigns and special events for clients – San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Whole Foods Market, Market Square, la Madeleine Restaurants, Chef Bruce Auden, Chef Damien Watel, Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus, Walt Disney's World On Ice, World Wrestling Federation, Henson Production's Muppet Babies Live, Paramount Pictures, Trimark Pictures, Dorothy Hamill's Ice Capades, Randy Travis, Star Struck Entertainment (Reba McEntire) and the San Antonio Restaurant Association - gave creative rise to public relations, communication and event planning for corporate and nonprofit clients. Spending equal time in event planning and public relations, I have honed my abilities to generate top of mind awareness through inspired events, targeted public relations and social marketing building increased brand loyalty for repeat business.
Many years ago, I developed the first awareness campaign and series of community events for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition's inaugural scholarship program for youth in agriculture. It was initiated to give educational opportunities on the college level to future generations who would continue to put food on the table for Texans. Today, that initiative has awarded more than $160 million to deserving youth. I am proud to have been part of that initial awareness campaign.
Almost a native San Antonian, I moved with my family to San Antonio when I was just three years old. Growing up in our Jefferson neighborhood, the urban experience has always appealed to my family and me. Today, with my wife Jamie, we live in a 1930s cottage in old Alamo Heights.
This is from an article about growing up in the Jefferson community that ran in a magazine years ago:
“It is all about community. It doesn’t matter where you live, it’s how you live wherever you are,” Bloodsworth emphasized.
"In the early '60s, every entertainment attraction was close to home,” he remembers. “You could ride your bicycle or walk to the Schneider's Cake Shop for freshly baked cupcakes and Royal iced cookies, peddle over to Dibbles Toy Store in Jefferson Village for Match Box cars and walk to the local theater for a Saturday matinee with friends from his old Jefferson High School neighborhood.”
There was a group of friends that rode bikes to the premiere of The Alamo starring John Wayne when it opened at the Woodlawn Theater on Fredericksburg Road. “We went to see if John Wayne was going to ride his horse up to the marquee,” John recalled. "He didn't."
With a passion for all aspects of the Alamo City, John is the owner of Publicity Ranch, a public relations and event marketing firm. His clients include The Battle of Flowers Association, San Antonio Fiesta Commission, Dado Group Architects, Chef Mike Bomberg and special projects for The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He has written lifestyle, food and entertainment articles for Southern Accents Magazine, San Antonio Taste, Fiesta Magazine, San Antonio Magazine, San Antonio Woman and is a contributing writer for Edible San Antonio and 78209 Magazine.
He is also a certified Tourism Ambassador for the city of San Antonio.
