Today's Featured Biography
Gwyn Huffman Willbanks
In 1960 I was off to the big city, Houston. With the birth of two sons, the next 2 1/2 decades were spent paying my dues to the Boy Scouts, Little League, F.F.A., fishing, water-skiing and the family business.
Then came the "empty nest" and it became necessary to re-invent myself. The remaining 2 1/2 decades have been supporting youth leadership and the environment. I'm committed to Presidential Classroom for Young Americans, Leadership America, Callaway Gardens, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and studying the migration of the monarch butterfly.
Suddenly, I was almost 65 years of age and had a plan: GAP Year B-4 Medicare. GAP has been defined with various degrees of humor from Go All Places, Gallivant And Party, to my sisters' spontaneous quip "Gwyn's Airhead Plan". In 2006, I embarked on a road trip of America---driving alone across country for 374 days, completing 25,000 miles by car, 16,000 air miles and 29 states. It was fantastic from north to south and coast to coast. I returned home convinced what was learned in Flato Elementary School remains true...it is America the Beautiful!
